It was a quiz aimed at Adults but the kids came along.

The answer was something like 1100 feet. One team guessed 250, we guessed 575 and the other team got it exactly right... While sat there googling. It was supposed to be a fun night and it was clear they googled it as one of the organisers even called out and said stopped googling as they could be seen doing it. You'd think that either the quiz master would have said that it was obvious they'd cheated or the team may have guessed a little out to appear they hadn't cheated.

They then had the nerve to go up and collect a laid of beer and wine for winning, despite the other 60 people booing them. It was a little off.

Not that we were worried really as it was just a fun fund raiser for the club, but the front of some people amazed me. No shame.

I was also in trouble as we got one question wrong in the music round that would have won it. They played "killing me softly" and you had to name the artist. My wife said Fugees and I said no, it was the original version with Roberta Flack....

... Oops! My musical genius shining through again.

It came out longer than that when I googled it, so it must have shortened at some point....there have been a lot of changes. There was a skating rink there at one point...before my time. Anyone caught googling should have had points deducted...absolutely no point in winning like that.

Reminds me of the quiz night scene in David Nicholls' book, 'Us'. If you haven't read it you really should.

I'm one of those people who argue with the quizmaster. You'd love me in your team........if you like being embarrassed. :)

About a guy in his forties (ahem....) whose wife decides she wants to leave him (with their son), so he organises a trip around Europe in a desperate attempt to rekindle their relationship, and build a new one with his son.

It's very funny, very clever and there's a lot of that awful thing where you recognise yourself in a lot of the scenes (both in the bloke, his wife and his son!)

I hope this doesn't tempt fate, but I'm going to find that and give it a whirl.

The other drawback with me is that facts are no problem, but I have a terrible memory for names now. A likely answer from me is: that red-headed guy, y'know he married that soap star and was in that film with the car chase.

It's very enjoyable. If you've read any of his other books (Starter For Ten, One Day) or you enjoy Nick Hornby, then it'll be up your street.

I thought Ryde pier was over 2000 feet long - unless its had a lot removed ! It certainly seems damn long when you look at it ! Are you sure your soft quiz master had the correct answer FLT ?

I started watching it and turned off after a while. The main problem was that ridiculous lighting platform he was underneath, which kind of ruined the whole ambience of the Pyramid, and which must have used up several large generators-worth of juice. I'm not a huge hip hop fan, although I enjoyed Jay Zee a few years ago (I stayed to watch him after seeing Amy Winehouse), but Kanye's show seemed to be more about his ego than even most megastars are guilty of. Still, the people there seemed be having fun, so fair enough.

Oh don't be such a bleeding heart. It's a TV programme. Anyone would think you were going to see your favourite pet dog for the last time at the vets before it was put down. :)
