England have gone into their default mode: "Stop playing and hoof it away" mode.

Is Kaylyn Kyle playing for Canada? I occasionally worked with her when she was younger and I was involved as a coach with Saskatchewan Soccer and the CSA's Regional Training Centre.

I'm surprised Canada haven't equalized, it seems inevitable.

England have switched off and Canada have been the much better team.

First English goal was absolutely brilliant. Beat three defenders and a perfect shot into the corner. Expect them to beat Japan now and make the Final. Well done ladies!!

I guess Canada spoiled Britain's Olympics and England's spoiled Canada's World Cup. Oh well!

Great result, well done the women! First half really reminded me of our FA cup final, 2 up early doors, etc. Good on them for holding on.

First goal was fantastic. Real intelligence and kept her nerve. Not a bit like a City striker.

No, the effort just before by the Canadian in a similar situation was the City striker effort.

Brilliant result! Even my favourite player got on the pitch again Ellen White, a great game! I'm glad they got the two goal lead like I hoped they would as it gave them the impetus to hold Canada out, Canada were never likely to get more than two goals in the game. The comments about the goalies are fairly accurate, it is the one area where the ladies have difficulty, Bardsley has made a lot of good saves but on the other hand when she makes a mistake it tends to lead to a goal. Hope Solo for the US is the best goalie I have seen. The Japan game will not be the pushover that some think who don't follow it much, they are the Champions and pass the ball beautifully at times. I have a feeling we will approach the match a bit like Wimbledon did in the 88 cup final, try and bag a goal then hold out and play very directly. A semi-final anyway in a FIFA World Cup, what an achievement, well done to all the girls!

I watched the first half, it was quite entertaining, but it's a bit like watching kids football, they lose possession every thirty seconds and the keepers are terrible.

Blokes of a certain age are always going to struggle with ladies football, there's been an inherent prejudice against it for years in England, in the last century the FA actually banned it for about 50 years, takes a while for those kind of attitudes to disappear

I am of a bloke of certain age and I have enjoyed working with male and female players. In my experience, females are attentive, enthusiastic, passionate about the game, hard working, they tend not to dive and cheat and seldom abuse referees and finally, they usually smell better than guys!
