When I tipped up Jack Hobbs for Epsom at 16s Golden Horn wasn't even entered in the race, so I'm taking a morale victory on that front, as I selected the best horse entered in the race at the time, even if the bookies still paid me **** all for it I got plenty back today though, even if the price was pretty short. Golden Horn sits at the top for now, but I think my fella has more scope for improvement, and I didn't throw 20 darts at it like Joe did
Only a matter of time before The Glasgow Stakes is rightfully upgraded to Group 1 status and becomes known affectionately as The Scottish Derby! Postponed won it last year, probably the best horse to run in Scotland since My Tent Or Yours! Until then, im claiming the English version. 3yo Treve would give him a race, dont think she is the same filly but I might have been smoking that Round Two Guineas gear
My Tent, that absolute hound couldn't win a bleeding handicap round that council estate up there Round Two's form is lording it up as well you seen at Ascot with O'Briens nags winning the big races! Unfortunately his non event in the Coventry wasn't paid out by the bookies on retrospective form but I'll stick with him! Never do antepost on the Flat but I backed this lad for the Guineas before his Coventry flop, I'm still quietly confident! The best 2 year olds are here anyway < whistle> Would love Treve to win a 3rd but it's the year of the Eagle
I dont agree beefy, think the form was lost in the hype, Argentero was well beaten tonight and the run of Black Beach in the Coventry suggests Round Two wasnt that far below his previous. I think he beat two of Obriens in that Irish mud who left the form well behind on proper ground at Ascot. The 4th from that race was beaten 20L in the Queen Mary as well.
I think a lot of people where guilty of getting involved in the Bolger hype regarding Round Two, me included. Because of New Approach and Dawn Approach going unbeaten at 2 and being crowned champion 2yos we all got carried away when he looked to have another good one. But in hindsight he should never have been as short in such a minefield of a race like the Coventry
Not sure myself, happy to put a line through that run at RA. 2 year olds are a funny lot, some will progress whilst others peak early. People mightn't like O'Brien but say what you like about him, he gets his 2 year olds to progress through the season unlike anybody else. Maybe Bolger peaks his too early, which could be a concern for Round Two, who knows....
Taken some 16/1 e.w on El Viento at Doncaster this evening Small stakes, should be fitter for reappearance and looks to be becoming nicely treated.
I was more impressed with Painted Cliffs tonight than either of Obriens 2yo Ascot winners although I have not watched those races back yet. Good start for Canford Cliffs as well getting a G2 winner. I think the two that were beaten could be more interesting, Air Force Blue and Ballydoyle.
Optimistic Beefy but Rock Of Gibraltar was only 6th in The Coventry so always grounds for hope. Agree with Bolger as the master of hype..puts AO'B in the shade and thats saying summet.
Done a double for an interest in tonights racing... Knight Music in the next at Lingfield and Best Kept 8:45 Donny.
Anyone watching the Greyhound Derby final? Farloe Blitz has all the form in the book to win, but I'm not risking my winnings today at 4/5, as dog racing is even more unpredictable than the horses, the start is usually key. Will just watch and enjoy the race
It's "The Derby", actually, or, if you like, "The Derby Stakes". All other Derbys are copycat subsidiaries. (You will note that I take no notice of sponsor's names, could hardly care less about Investec, etc., etc.).
Great stuff Bob. Well done all who followed in. Foley is the man Well done all the other winners too from a very tricky Saturday.
