Ill be surprised if Rockaway Valley gets beat today. And I fancy the first 2 from our Derby are different class to the first 2 from the French Derby.
BOOMERANG BOB was just pipped over course and distance by Bushcraft (winner today) last time and should make amends in the Windsor 3:55, where Huntsmans Close will be a danger if he consents to take part.
Oh well, still think Totalize is worth following, ran a poor race but will probably do better as season progresses. Thought he was close-up behind the winning bunch but was looking at wrong one . I do wish Brian Ellison could have won it, but it was not to be. Listened to Mark Johnston before the race. He is appalled that the Newcastle racecourse is about to be dug up and a 'sandtrap' course installed. I was surprised when he said that, in his opinion, it was one of the finest turf courses in the UK and will be irreplaceable, and I would think he knows what he is talking about. Then, this reconstruction is heresy IMHO. What do other members think? Is more winter horseracing really that important?
My mate is at the curragh and was chatting with Halford who was confident of a decent run so im on as well, has already beaten some of these here last month. Will also have a small wager on War Envoy/Jack Hobbs double 7/2
Note to Self: do not back anything ridden by David Allan (This week: 2 bets, 2 bad rides, 0 wins) It was pretty plain from observing the 3:55 at Windsor why Cam Hardie is an apprentice. He sat on the outside of the field well off the pace in the middle of the track on Boomerang Bob whilst all the pace was clearly on the rails, never got into the race and even managed to find traffic trouble when just coasting home. Has plenty to learn about race reading. Not a bad Saturday otherwise. Quest For More will probably be the last winner I ever back at Newcastle as I only bet on the flat turf racing. I should have taken the morning 11/1 as I knew that Clever Cookie would be withdrawn but as it turned out the Rule 4 was only 15p (as the Pricewise-inspired gamble had dried up) so it would have paid more than 9/1.
No problem lads. Very pleased to make everyone a few quid. Was reticent to post earlier in the week because I'd been told ground conditions could have scuppered up.
Thanks for that Bob!! Very nice indeed! Looked the likely winner along way out - Good to see Gordon Lord Byron winning not only for my bankroll but good to see on him back in the winners circle
Not very original but I think Jack Hobbs is pretty bomb proof today. i expect he'll win very easily, on ground that should suit
