I'd like to keep Phillips too but £10m for Caulker is a pipe dream. He'd be damaged goods if we had stayed up. Anyone buying him knows he's a risk.
I don't expect we will get £10 for Caulker either but he has the ticks on his record (forgetting the getting relegated ones) which say we can ask for it, and may then get what we paid. If we don't get that, he maybe worth keeping as I expect he will manage OK in the Championship.
What ticks has he got? He's been absolute dross for the last two seasons and that's ignoring off-field issues. He probably can get by as an ok Championship defender. Not great value though on his wages.
He'a young English, International cap, with PL experience, 10 /11 games for both England U21 and U19. Used to score a few as a CB. I haven't rated him with us at all, but he has got a record that says for me we don't need to sell him at a loss, when he ought to be able do a job for us this season.
Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. For me he's a typical English player who looked reasonable as a youngster as he's physically impressive but lacks any sort of football brain or actual brain. Maybe Pulis could get a tune out of him playing with Lescott but if we can offload a player who has been dreadful for £4m or so and get some huge wages out too, that can't be a bad thing. Doesn't seem like the sort of character to relish a 46 game Championship slog either.
All this 'cut price' stuff about our players is bollox! We've significantly cut our wages for next season and the players that keep getting mentioned other then Austin have all got two or more years so we don't need to and won't take 'cut price' offers!
