At the curragh tomorrow the double on WAR ENVOY (4.45) & LOGOUT ISLAND (5.50) pays about 4/1. Seems rock solid to me.
Don't know if you will be able to see this but it's the Timeform Racecard for the Northumberland Plate
Certainly wouldn't be backing Jack Hobbs at odds on in the Irish Derby. There are a few in that race bred to be suited by a stiff 12f. He won't have it all his own way. If he does win impressively then we might have a live Arc contender.
I agree Ron it's not that he wont win but with 4-6 Jack Hobbs and evens log out Island I know where my money would go.
Can get 10/11 and I think he's pretty bomb proof, ballydoyle don't have a colt who can beat him so have entered a filly. All the fillies are very closely matched this year so they are either all top class or it's an average bunch
Hasanour 5.20 Curragh I've done some digging following a strong tip of the hat for this horse at Ascot from the podcast and the yard expect this to win. Shouldn't be handicaps for too much longer.
For what it's worth I wouldn't ever take odds on about Jack Hobbs over this trip in a race O Brien dominates. What's the point? Qualify gets weight and is a fine horse based on her Oaks run. Highland Reel ran a belter in France LTO, will appreciate the ground and extended trip and the French form looks excellent now. Can't see Highland Reel out of the places and backed him each way at the start of the week.
Listening to this woman speak about all weather track at Newcastle on The Morning Line, a few locals against the proposal.
Only a couple today for some interest! Definately like the look of your Bob - everything looks in his favour will be weighing him down with my cash ! A couple of my picks - 3.35 Curragh- GORDON LORD BYRON 7/2 - a major drop down in class from Ascot last week - a bit of risk if he still retains his ability but must have come out the race well and even 80% of last seasons form will be good enough imo to take the race at which he is a decent price Northumberland Plate- Montefeltro 16/1 ew A complete lottery this race my fella is still unexposed over 2m and has had 3 races since a long lay off so will still be improving for hose races and could very easily run in to a place
I'm breaking on of my golden rules of betting today and am backing a horse that's on a hatrick. I've been on it for its last two wins and am sticking with it today: Clever Cookie 8/1 in the Northumberland Plate. Normally, even if I've backed a horse for two wins i leave them be for the hatrick, usually rightly so but even with the tough task faced today by this horse i think it should go very very close and am willing to break my own rules. Others of interest in the race for me are: Quest for More 10/1, Blue Surf 16/1 & Seamour 11/1. I might play the combi fc/tc but will decide that when i get to bookies. Over at The Curragh, Daneking in the last looks like a decent bet at 7/1. Also having a small acca on Hasanour, Log Out Island, War Envoy, Gospel Choir (Newmarket) And finally in the Irish Derby just a small ew on Kilimanjaro 28/1 for Seamie Heffernan
like wise smoke all the cookies who are clever will be backing the clever cookie, pulled out off the gold cup aimed for this Glee looking good to double up in the plate as ever s t a y frosty
Huntsmans Close fancied at Ascot last week but parted company with his jockey in the prelims and was withdrawn. Back out today at Windsor, 3.55. 100/30 and worth a dabble. Nearly Caught ew @ 16s in the Coal Miners race up in Geordieland. Good luck all.
Highly Prized out of a sister to Danehill with Moore in the saddle when Stoute has a runner. Worth some interest I'd have thought. 1.45 at Headquarters
The Northumberland Plate 2015 (3:45) is already guaranteed a place in racing history as it will be the last time that it is run on turf. Once the turf has been ripped up and replaced with sand, Newcastle will become another venue for low quality bookie-fodder, although it was not exactly host to a vast amount of top quality racing anyway. With Clever Cookie suppressing the weights, just a stone covers the rest of the field and I cannot ignore Roger Charlton’s five year old QUEST FOR MORE, who I believe can give 11lb to Brian Ellison’s Seamour (and several that were behind him last time) after a valuable win at Goodwood. MATTMU takes a drop in class to contest the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes (2:00) and if I am really lucky David Allan will deign to win for me today (has rode all four of horse’s career wins to date). Looking gift horses in the mouth comes with a health warning, so in the 2:35 the horse that has won four of his six career starts, BUSHCRAFT, could well leave me ‘malade comme un perroquet’. INTERCONNECTION was beaten favourite in a twelve furlong apprentices’ race last time but dropped back to ten furlongs in the 4:20 he can return to winning ways. With three pattern races, the Newmarket card ought to be much more interesting than it appears. In the Criterion Stakes at 3:25, the three year old Markaz drops in class and looks to have enough form to contend in an open Group 3. Whether I back him will depend on earlier results at Headquarters and Gosforth Park (have I got any cash left?). Next week sees the Clash of the Derby Winners (no surprise that the marketing people have missed that one) whilst today’s Irish Derby sees the Clash of the Derby Seconds. I expect Jack Hobbs to go for home early in the straight as he does not have a turn of foot. If he loses he will be favourite for the St Leger by the morning. The race is a no bet.
For damn well sure he's the best horse in the race, but all his wins have been when there hasn't been the word "firm" in the going. He'd be a confident choice if there was cut in the ground, but it's good to firm today. And RP spotlight said it looked too quick for him in the Diamond Jubilee. But today's a drop in class for him. Dermot Weld trained Tested has her first run over 6 furlongs so cannot back her.
Northumberland Plate: GABRIALS STAR 16/1 (NAP) Been waiting for this boy to reappear ever since the Chester Cup. Should have been kept fresh and primed for this after his luckless run on the Roudee, has bags of stamina and a big long straight to keep himself out of trouble and stay on powerfully to the line. Ground not as soft as Chester last time but has run creditably on fast ground previously and the going is described as good here, so hopefully that will be enough. Would rather have Hanagan on board but Hamilton has to right a few wrongs from his ride at Chester. Irish Derby: RADANPOUR 20/1 e.w Already backed it this week for bigger prices on the exchanges. Looked very, very smart when beating Jacobean 7L on 2nd start in softer conditions at Gowran. Has since won a listed race on good to firm at Leopardstown, unconvincingly, a track that I am convinced did not play to his strengths as the speed horses tend to come to the fore there. Trainer says the horse wants cut but he stays so well and gallops on so strongly that I think he might be okay in this field today as it isn't a race full of horses with a turn of foot. I'd like to see him really ridden aggressively because he will stay all day (Sea The Stars out of a Lamtarra mare) and he might surprise at rewarding odds here. An unbeaten Sea The Stars 3 Year Old in the Irish Derby in a sub-par classic year at 20/1? I'll take the chance (assuming Weld lets him run!)
15:05 Chester - Swift Approval e/w (This'll be my Saturday bet at 12/1. Worst draw of all, but still think he'll run a decent race). Oh, and a bit e/w too at 25/1 on Brian Ellison's Totalize in the Northumberland Plate (15:45).
