Abel Hernandez. Bought for £10 million. 5 goals in 15 games. Sounds like he'll go for around £5 million. = £1 million per goal (drop in value of AH). Some good dealing went on there...
If he goes for £5m we've got a great deal. We need to stop thinking about profit and loss on individuals. Previous fees mean nothing. I'd actually say he's a liability to us financially rather than an asset. We absolutely don't need a player like him in the Championship and his wages will be stopping us getting someone else in. We made a profit on Long but it turned out to be a bad deal.
We'd be in the same position with Long though I reckon. I doubt he'd be up for playing in the champ. Granted we'd be taking less of a hit but I think you need to take into account that AH was something of an unknown quantity in British football. We won't be the first or the last to have our fingers burnt by signing an expensive foreign striker
Brucey has now done it twice - Prossy and Hernandez. Let's all hope we don't get another expensive flop...
I think most people think (with hindsight obviously) that we wouldn't be in the championship if we still had Long.
I think you're being overly critical of him because he has a name like Hernandez. If he was called Johnson or Smith you'd be saying we could give him another season.
How did it look a desperate buy? He was chased for about 3 weeks before we finally got the deal done. Hardly desperation.
I'm critical of him because he hasn't got the heart for English football, he shies away from not just defenders but even the ball. He knows he can't hack it here which is why he wants out. Looking forward, we just need to get rid of his wages asap. It's the same as Bullard, Ghilas, etc last time we came down. I think it's unlikely we'll sign another striker until he and/or N'Doye are gone which makes it even more important.
I thought he did get off to a fairly good start, him and N Doye aren't that dissimilar ln goals only N'doye kept his form going a bit longer and had a few better games, they were both invisible when needed at the end of the season
That one on one he had (was it v Chelsea) showed him up a bit, looked totally lacking in composure even when he had a brilliant chance
He was an useless spineless arsehole, could have called himself Mark Hughes Hernandez he would still have been a massive pussy
The trouble with signing someone like Hernandez is that they have to be up to speed in the PL. City doesn't have the time (or money) to wait for them to 'come good' (and it seems that some never do).
