I haven't cried with laughter at a post in a long time. Cheers for that.

I asked for an argument and you haven't provided one. I argued that Willo is no less an asset than any other defender we have other than Janmaat.

Colo is old and hasn't proven he can return to the form he had 18+ months ago.

Saylor is just useless if he can't play due to injuries.

    Dummett is Dummett.

These players might be good at their best and fit, but until they are...they're no more use than Willo.

Willo was crap for the last 6 months, but before then he put in some decent performances, and people soon forget anything good he does after a bad game.

The same as we're all kissing Colo's arse after one good game even if he's been pants for ages.

People just don't have the ability to look past their own bias in regards to certain players.

I think the argument was "each of the above can point to purple patches and say 'that's how good I can be', whereas Willo is very much a Championship defender even when at his best."

Would you rather have Saylor, Dummett, Colo or Willo? I'd take Dummett first, then it's pretty much Saylor and Colo together, then Willo. Any other outcome is madness.

For ****'s sake Tash, do you think for one second I rate Dummett and Saylor? The former is ****ing dogshit and the latter I can't even describe how much I despise.

Now look, I have a soft spot for Colo but I agree it is time he moved on now. Him staying longer will tarnish his legacy, and his heart and will doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Williamson? Gormless, useless, has no pace, clogger, long ball merchant and all round footballing reprobate. The only thing I will give him is that he shouldn't be on the pitch in the first place.

Bottom line for me with Willo is that:

    1. He has always tried his hardest when he has played.

    2. He is limited in his ability, in relative terms, which means that he is playing in a league above his ability level. He should be playing in the Fizzy Pop league (is it still called that?) where he would be an effective player.

    3. For us to improve he needs to be sold and a better quality replacement bought. That's not to say others don't also need to be sold.

    4. He comes across as a genuinely decent hard working man.

    5. No need to slag the bloke off as he tries unlike some others who have been in the team.

I think Tash's point has some validity. Whereas Willo is clearly the least talented along with Haidara, they both try. Unfortunately we then have a mixture of injury prone, non trying, regressed or just lacking talent. Are they any more useful to us? On the odd occasion but even Willo has good games.

The sooner we all stop, or rather the club stop kidding ourselves that any of these guys are any good the better. We have a **** defence. Its not down to coaching. They are just not very good.

Still though, Willo is still probably the least useful Tash.

    1. We can't possibly know that mate. If he always tries and is that ****, I would dread to see him playing like he didn't give a ****.

    2. Yes perhaps that League. Maybe upper League 1 is best.

    3. I agree wholeheartdly with this

    4. Maybe but I don't really care. If he was good at football that would be good but we ain't paying him on how he raises his kids, mows the lawn, ploughs his wife, etc

    5. You use this word 'tries' again. I'm not having this. What is it that little green **** Yoda said 'Do or do not there is no ****in try'.

So you'd rather have some one like Saylor who never actually players rather than someone that can actually walk on the pitch, and for less wages?

Same with Colo. What has he done over the last 12-18 months to prove himself a more worthy asset than Willo?

Come to think of it Willo has done more than both Saylor and Colo over the last 18 months. You'd rather hope Saylor doesn't continue is terrible fitness streak and Colo just randomly starts playing well?

At least Williamson offers an aerial presence at the back.

I don't read anything into this interview. I doubt Steve McLaren is micro-managing the media department and doubt even more that his ideas for the coming season will be affected by who has done an interview on the club website. Even the club wont be thinking along those lines - didn't Andy Carroll do an interview days before being sold?

As for Willo, he ain't great. However, the season before last he did produce and even got quite a few votes for player of the season (even on here), just losing out to Debuchey. That's not a reason to keep him, but he would go with my best wishes if he is (hopefully) sold. He'll not be an easy one to sell so if he is still here next season I can only hope it is as a squad player and not as first choice centre-back.

I think it's your last line that has most worried.

I totally agree. I'd like us to have a squad of 25 quality premier league players, so that no matter who stepped in to cover we weren't worried about it. In reality though, we're not going to go out and buy 20/21 players which is what that would take. I think his time here should be done, and that even though we're not going to go and buy 20 quality players the cover should come from youngsters who may be asked to play 5 or 6 first team games a season as cover to help them develop. However, if nobody wants to buy him he will at least have a squad place as MA is not going to want to pay someone to not play. That bit is a definite worry. If we buy a couple of quality centre-backs and he ends up being a squad player who covers for 5 or 6 matches next season then at least it will be a step up from last season.
