Yes, a good example. I'm 99% sure I do know where to put one or the other, but I couldn't tell you. :)

One or the other is the past tense. :)

Which reminds me of another one: using "it's" to mean "belonging to it" instead of the correct "its". "It's", as used correctly here by LTL, is an abbreviation for "it is".

Glad I've got that off my chest!

Well one is a little bit more past tense than the other [I think] or one may be used before plurals. Next time I have occasion to use the words I'll get back to you on this. :)

    [pause]

Something like: he lit the first candle and then lighted the other three...

    Tbh, now I'm confused. :)

I believe lit and lighted are completely interchangeable, both as verbs and adjectives.

Of course, 'typo' isn't technically the correct term for these - as these are all used incorrectly, rather than being a mere slip of the keyboard.

One of THE most common, I'm sure. And seemingly hard to correct. My dad has always done it, and I tell him every time, and he still does it.

True, but some of them result from typos. We just moved our annoyances on a tad.

Isn't it good how far off-topic this thread has gone?

It's the irony in the the response that it is good :) I'm sure there are people who confuse their apostrophes and if there are one or two, we should reach out to them before it's too much.

    :)

I don't judge people like a previous poster suggested on their grammar as there may be a number of reasons for it (intelligence is not normally the reason either, as it was suggested), but neither will I feel bad about pointing out - otherwise how would someone ever learn the correct way?

Tbh all grammar nazi stuff just makes people look sad. Having dyslexia myself, I can understand why some people get certain things wrong. I don't see any harm as long as the persons post is readable.
