Ex Coventry, currently at Derby, Mike Williamson wannabe clogger Richard Keogh. Probably the most likely rumour so far.

Can't be @rsed to write anything else.

Probably never happen, too old for a start.
But, why would the Captain of Derby want to come here?
A dependable defender, so why turn one's nose up at him?
Is it because he doesn't have a foreign name or plays in the Championship.?
He played about 20 more games last season than Lascelles, so maybe he's too good for us.
Who would McClaren trust most - Lascelles or Keogh?
Seemingly, good enough to play for Republic of Ireland.

BTW, I'm not saying go get him, as I know absolutely **** all about him, just merely asking a few questions.

My personal opinion of turning my nose up is purely down to ex-Championship stalwart, Watford captain and regular Not606 page headliner Mike Williamson's contribution to NUFC's cause.

I also personally don't consider Lascelles to be a PL class defender.

And John O'Shea, Paul McShane and Richard Dunne are also current ROI defenders.

Mate he is a clogger, at best and would be even more out of his depth than Williamson is.

I watched them a fair bit last season and he was very good. A very good organiser, basically exactly the "type" we need. Can he make the step up? Don't know. I'm all for getting some solid dependable leaders from these shores, its exactly what we need. They have to be good enough though. I think we have to let McClaren do his thing and judge him on the results.

Im not gonna hate on a guy just because hes played in the championship.

Besides nothing could be worse than more Colo/Willo combo.

But I also read we're not looking at Keogh at all.

Apologies if the point was missed - this isn't about hating Keogh who at best is better than Willo. This is about questioning whether he is the right calibre of player to either excite the fans or impress other potential players. He's 28 and has never been higher than 6th in the Championship, how is he now a Premier League defender? All comments in the thread are based on the fact this is a transfer rumour as well, The Chron later reported it was rubbish. But The Chron is rubbish, so who knows?!

This proves that all that gubbins that Fat Mike came out with is bollocks. If this is the standard of player we are targetting for next season then they can eff off. We allready have 2 effing donkeys in our defence as it stands now, we do not need to purchase another one. this not fcuking Blackpool beach. We do not need anymore DONKEYS, all they do produce is more donkey shizer!! FFS!!!! I used to love the Donkeys when I was a kid on holiday at Scarborough, but I would never think of getting them to pull on a shirts and shorts and sending them out onto a football pitch!! Something i thought was not possible is actually happenning, we are becoming a bigger fcuking laughing stock than last year..
    UN-FCUKING-BELIEVEABLE....!!!

Nah he was. I'm not sure if he is the right guy or good enough, but there is little point in pretending somebody who had a very good season and made the team of the year for the entire division didn't, just to satisfy some negative whinging. He clearly had a very good season at the level. But then so did Russell Martin, Grant Leadbitter and Daryl Murphy. I wouldn't be overly enthused by signing any of them either.

For me Keogh is probably one of those players who will do very well in the Championship, but not quite make the grade in the PL. He is the right type though, a proper leader of men. If you could put the mental side of his game into Colo, he'd be a proper defender. We are searching for that illusive all round package at centre back. Problem is we need 2. Colo and Lascelles are probably ok as back up.

How you move Saylor and Willo on is another matter.

If Keogh came in to replace Williamson and Colo moved on and we bought in two very good CB's (for us, not world beaters but good) I perhaps wouldn't mind.

I defy anyone of sound mind and body to tell me that they would feel comfortable and happy going into the new season with our existing CB's plus Lascelles and Keogh. The thought makes me want to cry myself to death.

No not ever. If he was back up, yeah maybe, but even then can he make the step up?

We need to invest a ****load in two top centre backs. Attracting them is a problem. This is where Ashley and Charnley backing up the big talk comes in. You have to make people believe you are going somewhere, sell them the dream. We won't.

I'm not asking for the world beaters like you say. If someone could say to me that our starting centre back partnership would be 2 from say Shawcross, Collins, Reid, Vlaar or Dann, I'd think yeah they are not superstars but they will form a good solid base to work from. These guys though are at clubs who are considered better clubs at present by players. So to get them here, they'd have to believe something big is going to happen.
