Morning all, weather getting hotter. The only white in the sky is from vapour trails left behind by the jets passing many miles above me.

Have a good day Yorkie. I am sure you would far rather be here doing a little cementing than watching wildlife. Perhaps not.:emoticon-0100-smile

Afternoon all from a bright & sunny Bandit Country...just had a text message from Little Miss W_Y who is in The Gili Islands at the moment. She came across an Irish Bar and turns out the head chef is a Watford Supporter - sent me a picture of a Watford shirt hanging up in the bar.
Joliday time will soon be upon us..we are heading to Scotland for a week with 2 weddings and few days exploring the Highlands & Islands in between - going to try and meet up with BB and Aberdeen for a few beers whilst there. Then to Dominican Republic for a couple of weeks of real R&R...

I've no idea what time it is! I'm in Singapore airport now, getting ready to return to winter. Apparently it has been snowing at home so I should be able to get some skiing in.

Well that has been a different sort of day.

Three years ago a lady in her late sixties decided that she didn't wish to live in the USA any longer and wanted to return to the UK. She looked around various areas and eventually made an offer on a house. This was accepted by the owner, so she started to organize her return, including selling up in the states and putting all her home in a container. There were a number of delays, but then the owner pulled out of the deal. She searched the area, but couldn't find a house she wanted at a price she could afford. Meanwhile her sister had moved to France because she could afford the land to keep horses, which she couldn't in the UK. After some time it was suggested she might like to move close to her sister here and an old farmhouse was found that was ideal, but needed a lot of work. Eventually the Notaire did his work, the house became hers and the builders moved in.

Today was the day, three years on when her container home was due to arrive. It had arrived in Le Harve on Tuesday and was going to be delivered at 8.00 am today. "You have two hours to unload it, after which you will be charged €80 for every 15 minutes the driver is kept there." In view of the charges, a gang of us gathered before the hour to unload the home. The driver got lost! In the end he was told to wait until someone could meet him and direct him to the house. At 10.30 am he arrived and the great unload started.

If you have your belongings in a steel box for three years it seems you tend to forget what you own. "Why did I bring that" she wondered, and yes there were things like the ride on mower that now had flat tyres. Never mind, box after box was taken into the barn and stored on timber pallets until the builders complete their work. By the time the container was empty the temperature was nudging 30°C, we were all given cold drinks and there was no additional charge.

My daughter moves home this weekend, so I regard this as a trial run. The problem is we are told to expect even higher temperatures.

Today the beach volleyball court for the Island Games that start on Saturday was finished - why can't they use one of the proper beaches we have instead of a man-made court in St Helier near one of the busiest roads on the island?

Good morning all from a sunny Jersey, although there is some light cloud in the sky.
Day off work today, but am confined to the house until noon at the latest as I'm having a new vacuum cleaner delivered.

Busy weekend ahead. 50km walk down the Grand Union Canal tomorrow and nephew's First Holy Communion and mate's 60th birthday on Sunday . Think I'll have a quiet one tonight!

Your tale of woe is a salient reminder to make sure I pack the waterproof tomorrow Yorkie! I know a few people have issues with the BBC - my major one is that they bugger up the weather forecast so often :)!

    Enjoy the weekend folks.

Morning all from an already hot day in my little corner.

For several weeks I have been having conversations with France Telecom/Orange. I can make calls from my landline to whoever I wish, but some people trying to phone me get the message that the number is not known. It is not everyone, just a few people both in England and France. I have to keep a record of when people have tried and failed, which is difficult unless they send a text asking me to phone back. After my latest chat with the man from Orange it seems that we are no nearer getting it sorted. I have one friend who is also with Orange who can never get through, and despite getting them to phone me while he monitored it, he did not see the call being made. There is something very strange going on.
