I think it has something to do with squeamishness and the perception of animals as pets etc. Also the culture of the various peoples. We eat oysters raw, and we eat rare steaks. Some people around the globe think that is absolutely incredible and nauseating. The oyster a living creature going down into our mouths and into our stomachs as we savour the stuff. When we eat a rare steak, some people cannot believe we have a large slab of red almost raw meat of a cow on our plate and start chopping it and put it in our mouths. I am told they feel sick when they see the blood coming out of the meat onto the plate. We feel squeamish about horse meat and yet the French eat it. They also eat frogs legs. Many people eat eels but others eat snakes. It is all about cultural differences and the food that we as carnivores have been brought up with.
I agree with what you say but don't you think stealing pet dogs to eat them is wrong, whatever culture you're from? And holding a festival to celebrate the fact, that's not cultural either ?
I missed the bit about stealing. Of course you shouldn't eat stuff that's not yours. Clearly wrong ! So the festival is about eating stolen dogs?
