Confirmed that he has left today to join Brighton.

Described on Twitter by Stephen Henderson "as the best he has worked with"

First thoughts -will Roberts replacement be from the Network <cheers>

    For Brighton.

Not good at all IMO. Highly regarded at the club, from the employers to the goalkeepers. less than 7 days before the team reports back to training too.

But it's ok as we're going to maybe sign x amount of players from one of 10,000 teams in the next 5 years.

That is a shame. I liked Ben as a player and he seemed to have a brilliant relationship with all the keepers.

Yes it is a pity but there must be other good goalkeeping coaches out there. Good luck Ben.

what happened to fighting to keep people?

Look at sir Alex, he was never of the mindset of you want to leave then go ahead. He convinced cantona, Ronaldo, Rooney etc that Utd was the place to be. He knew their worth and didn't give up. It's a shame we are reluctant to show the same fight.

The decision to allow him to leave for one of our "rivals". (Hollow laugh) smacks of a lack of ambition.

Or maybe they have a replacement -appointed on merit - already lined up.

    I bet he is Belgian.

Like the previous Goalkeeping Coach..... Andy Woodman!!!!!.... sorry to swear :(

Ben had a longer playing association with Charlton rather than Brighton so it's not the pull of a former club..... it's probably he wants to be at a club with ambition but surely the signing of Bulot is a statement of intent isn't it? <laugh>

People mask this by saying "bring kiely back".

He's the goalkeeper and first team coach of Norwich! Why would he?

Dr Kish hasn't been nearly as opinionated as he has been in recent years with his articles.

I know DP and LB have a relationship with him, but there seems to be a situation of eggshells and treading going on.

Thought he hasn't given credence to the Kermo "rumors" <laugh>

he'll be hard to replace. the keepers all liked him. we'll more than likely pluck someone from the lower leagues who has potential. but, saying that, i've just remembered we're not allowed to appoint a british person anymore so it'll more than likely go to "josef blogzwich"

What I find mind blowing is this...

We have just sold our best young player, one who was under contract, for a desultory fee.

We the lose our goalkeeping coach to one of our "promotion rivals" this season.

And yet there are still plenty of Charlton fans in the Charlton cyber world wringing their hands, knitting their scarves, letting their Mums wipe their runny egg from their chins, and saying today "things are still better under Roland".

It sometimes feels like this Club breeds a version of fans that the Harrison Ford character in Blade Runner should be sent to this planet to exterminate. It's like sharing your football club with 5,000 versions of Private Pike from Dads Army.

I'd love to know the reason he felt he had to make this move. He must have felt severely hacked off about something. And Vol is right. On CL there is a forced optimism and anyone who is concerned about Roberts' decision to leave gets jumped on as a doom 'n' gloom merchant.

FHB - the proof of the pudding will come on 8 Aug with the strength of the team we put out v QPR.

The quality on our management bench will be instructive, too.

Perhaps Ben Roberts just fancied a change or he wanted to live with his Family by the Seaside. Or he was severely pissed off with Charlton. Again we will treat this situation according to our agendas, All Hell and Royston- negatively and anti club, some members of Charlton Life- glossing over.
My opinion is I don't know why he is leaving so it is pointless speculating. All I will say is that Ben Roberts is a good goalkeeping coach.

what i know about Roberts, and I posted it on here several times - he and Mathews were told after BP left to take control, and especially with a few games in mind, until they found a replacement.

24 hours they had Luzon. My opinion now - it showed them progress wasn't as promised.

By progression - I mean professionaly for them. (Edit)

He probably left for the same reason people like you and I leave a job. Better career prospects and more money.

Dick - are you aware that Reams has taken severe offence at your recent post about him on Charlton Life <laugh>

In fact, he refers to you as a "hypocritical old fart" amongst other things.

For those in need of some high quality (albeit unintentional) comedy today - please look at Reams' all time classic "3 New Signings" thread on Into the Asylum.

    <cheers>

The b'mouth thing is the biggest bullshit in the world. It would be laughable until you realise it's preying on people's love of the club and their wanting of new players.

Kermo was never a target. The posts since are the biggest clutching of straws ive ever seen.

i read that thread and assumed the author was 13 and still at school. there is nothing he could know that the rest of us couldnt find out or guess at.

of course we'll sign 3 players this summer, saying "this week" is just guess work. if it dont happen then he could just say "it got held up", which is more guess work. the "in the know" knowledge on that site is akin to me knowing tomorrow is going to be thursday.
