    Agreed,

it might sound heartless but Europe's navies must block these boats from leaving their departure points in Africa. Currently our ships are acting as taxis which will only encourage more people to risk their lives to reach their perceived promised land. Unfortunately for many life gets even worse in Europe.

    Shock horror!!

Roger Mosey, former head of BBC TV news, has published a book giving chapter and verse on the corporation's liberal bias.He concludes
"Auntie leans so far to the left that she frequently topples over into proaganda".

    This thread is becoming toxic.

I thought it was about discussing political philosophy ...

No, it is about general politics. I'm not sure you would be objecting if the BBC bias was the other way.

His comment on sharia law in the Uk deserved as much derision as it rightly received. The church should not get involved in politics, it is as biased as the BBC.

So ok to cool someone a plonker in written text and to make comments about his beard?

Just checking because I actually endeavour to respect the views of others... unless they are hateful derisive or bigoted?

Beardy weirdy did not respect the views of the vast majority of his flock. His divisive and potentially dangerous personal ideas should have been kept to himself, he devalued his senior position in the Church of England.

I take it that your use of language implies that he is, in some sense, more weird as a result of having a beard ! This implies the belief that being bearded implies being weird - or that weird people are often bearded. Both assumptions are politically incorrect - and, on behalf of the whole race of bearded people (including Kropotkin and Marx) I object.

What he actually said was that there were some elements of Sharia Law in the British legal system anyway. Also the legal system does not contradict the ten commandments (which are the same in Christianity, Islam and Judaism) but rather reinforces them. All religions have their system of laws and conduct - which are by definition 'public acts,' and the role of the state is to find a system which reflects the needs of a multi cultural, multi religious society. By the way Sharia law is not in the Khoran and is, for the majority of Moslems, anti Islamic.

Funny I think you would find he seeks a unifying way through.... not that I prescribe to his views...

actually YOUR behaviour is the most divisive on these boards... a lot of us have been posting on here and previously 606 for a good few years and we all rub along pretty well together.... you win yourself no friends.

You might think you know a lot but when it comes to people you appear to have little wisdom....or common sense....(unless of course you are one of those who gets pleasure out of baiting others?)

I am one stroke away from pressing the ignore button once and for all

I do not agree that our laws should be adapted to facilitate the views and religions of minority groups from outside the UK. Britain should adopt the Australian attitude of immigrants are welcome as long as they learn our language and values. If that doesn't suit then live elsewhere.

What you said was that the church has no right to engage in politics, or to express political opinions ! I would hotly contest this. Also Rowan Williams in no way suggested that Britain should adopt more of Sharia Law. Maybe you need to read up a little on what people actually say before criticizing or insulting them.

Talking about politics and religion is divisive matey, if you don't want to comment then concentrate on the footy. If you look at some of the other threads there are many heated discussions. Personally I think you have not recovered from the hammering the labour Party recently suffered.

Did you not criticise somebody for being condescending the other day?
It is perfectly possible to have a discussion where others disagree without belittling them, continually resorting to one upmanship or attaching labels to those you don't like just to acheive more impact. All that's going to happen is half the forum will put you on ignore and that will effectively kill the thread. If that's the way you want it to be then great but I think it would be better for everyone if we all continued to be polite and just put our views across without being so confrontational about it. I'd add, by the way, that when people have been picked up for namecalling etc. all but one have apologised and sought not to repeat it. Guess who that one person is?

    You are wrong.

He argued that adopting parts of sharia law would help maintain social cohesion. he suggested muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a sharia court.

His personal opinion did not reflect or will not reflect the view of the British people. No wonder he was ridiculed.

    ridiculed by some...

I actually believe that the vast majority of marital disputes and many financial matters are dealt with by a civil court.

If there is not a criminal issue and any outcome does not break the law people can do what they like can they not? Sharia law is very wide ranging...( and again I am not saying I agree with it). But people should be allowed to do what they want inside the law...

Ridiculed by the majority. There should be no place in British Law for the special interests of minority groups.
