430 Worcester Henllan Harri 4/1 Backed this as soon as the market opened and already in from 6/1 to 4's. Bowen has 1 runner here and travels a fair old way for it and Sean rides for him and agin his only ride!!!! I'm all over this 820 Kempton Furiant 4/1 Has under performed for the one race but his last run was in a decent sales race and he shaped as in this step up to 6f was welcome and with Buick booked and big run looks on the cards. Expect this one to lead pillar to post. 445 Carlisle Comedy King 9/2 Went off with favourite at York and faded into a disappointing 5th but that was only his 2nd race back after a break so maybe hes taking a while to come to the boil so we will give him a chance off of a mark of 83. 515 Carlisle Privileged 6/4 varian sends one all of the way to Carlisle and has the man of the moment Lee on board. Steps in to a handicap off of a reasonable mark and if headgear was being deployed i would be super confident of win but he's plenty short enough at 6/4 and will hope for a drift come the morning.
A decent ****er bet for me tomorrow, Carlisle 3.35 He's No Saint 6/1 - 20 points Art Obsession 11/2 - 20 points Ifwecan 12/1 - 3 points
I'll be going for all the Jacks in this race: Ginger Jack 7/1 Our Boy Jack 14/1 Karaka Jack 14/1 All three on their day have a cracking ew chance. Ew singles, combi fc/tc
Morning, crew. Couple of decent cards locally, today, with racegoers with a fast car, or slow chopper, offered the chance to ‘double up’ and attend both Salisbury and Bath. I won’t be going to either but had Salisbury asked me to present the Bibury Cup, later on this afternoon, that might have been different. I’m guessing there was trouble with the phone line as I never received the call. One thing that does surprise me, even more than not being asked to present the Bibury Cup, is that Mr Charlton’s HEART LOCKET, what a lovely name for a filly by the way, one of the most loveliest I’ve ever heard in fact, is odds against in the stayers maiden (8.40) – 5/4 at the time of writing. She’s a very nicely bred filly as her dam was a Listed victor, for Sir Henry. Heart Locket showed nothing on debut, last term, but on her second outing, earlier in the month she displayed promise, after being very green early on in coming home a fast finishing 4th. The only one to run, since that Chepstow heat, has subsequently won easily by 4 lengths so the form has a solid feel to it. You can expect Heart Locket to come on for that seasonal introduction, especially now that she knows what racing is all about, and I would imagine she would be very hard to beat in a maiden where the old girl’s opponents don’t look the strongest bunch ever to face the starter. Good luck all.
Captain's Dileema 8/1 1pt each-way at Naas 7pm. Smullen and Collins have a great record when they team up together and in an open old handicap he can steer this one into at least a place and hopefully more.
There will be a maximum of nine to face the starter for the Irish Derby (with best current odds): 8/11 Jack Hobbs 7/1 Highland Reel 8/1 Giovanni Canaletto, Storm The Stars 11/1 Pleascach 12/1 Qualify (supplemented) 20/1 Radanpour 33/1 Kilimanjaro 150/1 Carbon Dating Just four possibles for Ballydoyle but something is guaranteed to pick up some prize money.
How about this re a stat for Saturday’s ‘Richard Pitman’s Derby’ run at Newcastle. Since 1988 just 5 horses have won from a double figured draw. Cor blimey some pointer that. And last year 4 of the first 6 home came from the lowest 8 stalls and in ’13 the 1-2-3 home where drawn 4, 6 and 3. It’s not just in sprints where the draw matters, troops. Am so hoping Mr Henderson’s Cardinal Walter gets a run (and a low berth should he qualify) – currently number 23 and only top 20 get in. If Clever Cookie stands his ground he’ll only be carrying 8 stone 4 pounds (Cardinal Walter, that is, not Mr Henderson). Can anyone recommend any decent light weight jockeys???
We have got light drizzle this morning but clearing into a fine day now. Some showers forecast the weekend but many places will remain dry. Jack Hobbs should still take care of them though, shouldn't he? Is Log Out Island still a runner in the card? He was on Monday when I was glossing over the declarations then. Would love to see him come across as I wouldn't get much chance to see him up close across the pond.
I noticed that Boil posted Comedy King as a selection today. Comedy King is a Hall of Fame horse in Australia. One of the all time greats. He lumped 9-5 to victory in the 1950 Melbourne Cup. Glennon went on to ride Sea Bird in the Arc.
Who on earth is backing Liverpools to win the Premier League right now?!? They are flagged up on Oddschecker as one of the most popular bets and have been shortened in a couple of places as a result.
12/1 Qualify seems decent ew value. First time beyond 8f and she wilns a 12f classic. However she was about 5secs slower than Golden Horn (equivalent of about 30l) who won comfortably. The ground was faster for the Derby but I doubt it would account for that much. That puts her a fair bit behind those placed in the Derby. Highland Reel looks interesting at 7/1. Can't have Jack Hobbs at odds on even if he does look the likely winner.
