It is. It was a pub before it was a club, but I can't remember what it was called. I went to see Lee Evans there once and the ****er didn't turn up.
I've been *noshed in open areas of a few classy pubs as well as cinemas. Ahh happy days, where did they go? * by women before anyone asks.
Queens on queens road used to be a decent pub when Frank had it, you could do whatever you wanted in there.
I remember Henry's well and went in the quite a bit in the mid 90s. Some sketchy characters in there mind. I also remember Oasis were from around the same time... No mention of Adelphi Club?
Re: My earlier post, this article has copyright belonging to The British Music Archive I have no claim of any connection with this article. At least I wasn't imagining it: The group was formed in Hull in 1965. Lead singer Mandy Smith had been singing in a band called Mandy and the Moonrakers with her brother, Dennis. However, one evening she met drummer Hilary Morgan and bass guitarist Lesley Saxil-Neilson in local club, Sombreros, and they decided to form an all-girl group. Further members Karen Baker (guitar), Lynda Harrison (vocals) and Margaret Wedgner (guitar) were recruited over the following months. i went in there virtually every week during parts of the 80's n 90's ....only fight i ever remember seeing was when my mate of the time laid into someone at the bar he had being after....the 80's seemed to have a permanently violent air to it around town with many going round town in gangs....thankfully i knew plenty and the lot i regularly drank with no one wanted trouble with.....thought LA's might have got a mention as there was fighting in there every Friday when we went !
when we couldnt get in LA's i would sometimes go in the old Silhouette club (Spring Bank)....it was one of the most chilled out drinking places of the day imho :]
Queens was the main pub for the Spiders crowd. Next door was Reflections, which catered for a totally different clientele...although we "dared" to venture in there a couple of times!
We used to go there before gigs at the College, if I remember rightly, the included The Skids and The Dickies(Welly, Tower and the City Hall got far better bands).
please log in to view this image there always used to be an old sports car in the show room next door with the three windows - same car was there for years
Used to be loads of scrapping in Gingerman. Centre Bar was always notorious for trouble too. Bass had a fair bit too. The bouncer out of Shire Penno died a few months back. kin man mountain he was.
I had my wedding party upstairs in Gingerman. A fight broke out between a couple of uninvited lads and well it was my Brides day they were spoiling, so I had to do something didn't I? Strolled over to the biggest of them(he was ****ing big as well, mebbe five stone heavier than me) and politely asked him to leave. Now maybe because I was so polite, he didn't realise how angry I was inside, so he refused. A swift kick in the bollocks, followed by a well aimed uppercut and he was helped/escorted out by his women and a couple of bouncers. My bride pretended she was less than impressed, but you could see it in her face, she was delighted. Now don't go thinking I was a thug. This was the one and only fight I've ever had in a pub and at the time, my regular haunts were Pint&Pot, Arctic Ranger and Orchard...
