True. There's that age old conundrum about who ate who first, fish or man? That's where the word fisherman originates from. True story.

    Some dogs eat small children.

Does that mean we can tuck into a nice tender puppy?

Only if the bitch is irresponsible enough to leave the puppy unsupervised in the company of a hungry person.

Fish is actually one of the most concerning, we are literally wiping out species with the amount eaten

You'll never see a fish win Britain's Got Talent. Not in our lifetime.

I'd love to see how long the UK would be a nation of dog lovers when the food ran out :D Old Rover would be on a spit in 10 seconds flat should the need arise.

That's why they eat dogs over there, because they've had to, over time it becomes normal, I'd eat a dog before I'd eat a pigeon I'll tell you that <laugh>

At keast they eat the meat, unlike us who slaughter animals only to throw vast quantities of meat into the bin.<doh>

Not really true is it? They eat dogs because it's seen as good luck and because they also believe that it produces an internal heat to keep them warm in winter.

They breed and steal dogs to eat at this 'festival', which btw they claim doesn't exist. It's not eating dog out of necessity, it's done out of superstition.

That's a bold statement. We'll all be underwater in 30 years so the fish might have a chance.

Seriously dude, china and hunger in rural areas has a long painful history, dogs were a source of food. If they had had horses to eat, dogs would not have been on the menu
There has been 6 or 7 famines in China in the 1900s alone mate including the whole of China in famine in the 60s let alone the starvation during WWII and the japanese invasion.

But not in the present though, and that was his point.

Necessity may have normalised the practice in some areas, but this festival isn't about necessity.

The stories of how the dogs are killed in a heightened state of fear to supposedly improve the flavour is a barbaric practice and nothing to do with famine.

I understand they eat dog and as you rightly say in times of famine it was a ready, handy source. But this is the part of your comment I was addressing ''That's why they eat dogs over there, because they've had to, over time it becomes normal,'' - it doesn't follow that extremes taken in famine become normal and nowadays they eat dog for reasons of superstition. They also ate human flesh in the famine, that didn't become normal.

They've been gobbling dog meat in China possibly since before 500 B.C as a source of food in lieu of other types of livestock for poor batards.

3\4 of Liberians depend on dogmeat\bushmeat. In the Congo a few folk can group their cash and buy a dog to eat.

I'm sure it's completely normal to these folks. if they could afford steak or swordfish you can bet your arse they would be eating that instead.
