they do see the OO on the news but its not like they go into the background/tensions etc in a 3 minute news article. what people outside ireland see is old men in bowler hats, cheap suits and birthday girl sashes walking down a street and "catholic youths" rioting

I think, if the Irish had voted for Independence as opposed to violently "uprising", they'd probably have a United Free Ireland by now.

So your opening salvo is wrong.

As for the rest of it, people see the ****e in NI and say to themselves "what a pathetic load of ****e".

Oh look Paddy and Billy are fighting again, stupid ****s.

OO - "We'll march in Nationalist areas to piss them off"

NC - "We'll throw stones and bombs at Loyalist to piss them off"

(OO = Orange Order - NC = Nationalist Community)

You only need to look at guys like Webelbhoy to see why there is so much hatred for each other in NI.

I think a lot of the parents know that their children are involved and probably agree with what they are doing.

I remember in Belfast City centre ther was a demo for "Stop violence against Republican P.O.Ws" There were kids about 6-7 years old standing holding placards as these dissident reoublican supporters shouted out some gruesome stuff.

If a kid is brought into that ****e at an early age they probably see themselves as doing their part for the cause.

WOW Edge stretches to more than two lines. That's the only redeeming thing in that post though. The Irish people voted in the 1918 election to form its own Government outside British rule, the British refused to recognise the Irish Parliament so stop talking ****e mate. Do what I do, if you don't know anything don't make an idiot out of yourself by commenting on it. At least have a wee google before jumping in.

A bit like all them parents bringing their kids to the marches yesterday and introducing them to a life of sectarian hatred. The difference is that there would have been thousands and thousands of kids getting indoctrined yesterday compared to the handfull at that demo you mentioned. They where probably the kids of the prisoners too.

Many times the people of ireland (the whole of the country) were promised independence for it never to materialise.

The only reason the republic is now free is due to the exploits of the IRA* in brining England to the negotiating table

*no not the IRA you are thinking of

    You don't know that.

The UK has relinquished a lot of territories in the last Century, most via peaceful means.

The IRA and Sinn Fein are seen and have been seen by a large pc of Irish Protestants as a devisive party perhaps due to their readiness to kill their Protestant overlords?

Anyway, I'll catch yeez all later <diva>

What has 1916 got to do wit any vote? I must have missed the part in history where the British were offering a vote on independance.
