Manchester United are nearing a £7.5million deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to The Sunday People. Schweinsteiger – who will be 31 in August – only has a year left on his deal with Bundesliga champions Bayern. The German is tempted to link-up with Van Gaal, who has managed him before between 2009 and 2011. Morgan to remain a Saint, more likely if this happens. This seems even more strange considering the home grown rule, but I'd be happy as Larry if he's still with us come September.
I think someone said many moons ago that Morgan qualifies as home grown, or some such distinction that counts for Saints rather than against them.
It's only taken Wenger 10 years to realise he needs a quality DCM. Would move them a step closer to actually being a runner in the title chase if true.
Correct; Morgan counts as a home-grown player, which is part of the reason that 25m is arguably too low. He's not just one of the better CMs in the league, he's in rare company among the best 'English' CMs out there.
Didn't Arse say they wouldn't pay £25M. Assuming its just Arsenal, well that just adds to my optimism. Utd are good at stock piling players, buying for the sake of it is just part of their fairly clueless plan. Keeping him will be the best £25M that we never got.
Depends whether they see Blind continuing in centre mid I suppose. Saw Carrick in London Friday, but that means naff all in the summer and the fact he is a London boy.
Arsenal have been massively linked to Kondogbia in the last few weeks, he has just signed for Inter. I resigned myself to the fact that Morgan was leaving about a year ago (whenever that tweet came out) so I am not massively fussed where he goes, think Utd would be a better fit for him, but who really cares where he goes if he isnt here any more?
I still don't think we've had a bid of more than £10m for Morgan and that's from Spurs who won't satisfy Morgan wanting to move to a CL club. If Schweinsteiger goes to United, with Arsenal both not putting any bid in and seemingly turning their attentions to Carvalho I don't think it's out of the question he'll stay with us next season.
