It irritates me when someone from Manc talks about "chavs". I just think, "you're not a ****in' cockney, nobhead". I suppose I just find people in general annoying.
Tell that to the UVF. I see how and why riots happen, I just don't see why this one did. It appears as violence for the sake of it. Ardoyne, maybe a bit different.

People around the world are not surprised when they see trouble here. It's expected around the Orange marches. It is the effect on inward investment that I would be worried about. It's a tricky one as on the one hand you don't want to see trouble and on the other you do not want to see the smug look on their faces as the waltz past unhindered. Everything ounce of freedom Ireland has gained has been gained through violence although a large majority of it would have been futile, like violence everywhere.

I agree violence has been a necessary evil in getting ireland to where it is today....however the past has shown there is a time to stop and talk. violence has often brought us to the table to put us in a position to talk and get what we want. At the minute ongoing violence gives the orange order the opportunity to get out of talking. they can say they'll not talk to the violent community. If we let them get on with it (within reason) and ignored it (again within reason) then any violence and trouble would come from their side and they'd be the bad guys - they'd probably come crawling to us looking to talk But if you feel the outside world blames the orange order for the trouble you are mistaken. I now live in England and work in wales. People see catholics rioting - they dont even know what the orange order is

I mean the whole of Ireland. The GFA is only one of about a hundred agreements between Britain and Ireland and every generation think they have cracked it and wring their hands when there is further violence.
As I said, no one really cares what people in Britain think, except if you live there obviously. If Irish people had worried what Britain thought of us over the centuries we would have got nothing done. If people there do not know what the OO is then they do not watch the news as the OO and their marches are always mentioned in bullitons about the trouble.
When the people of Britain see catholics rioting its kind of hard for the British government to do anything for us. Like it or loath it, Britain rule NI (hopefuly not for much longer) If the catholics were not to riot but to peacefully protest or peacefully block the routes of the parades - and then be forcefully removed by the police and us not react - or to disrupt the parades to the extent the protestants start causing trouble then the people of Britain would have our sympathies. THen the government woudl do something about it At Garvaghy Road this is exactly what happened
