That's why he is their president. The only on of them able to draw the complex connection between a high number of guns and a high number of gun related incidents.

At least he tried to take on the NRA...he failed miserably but at least there was some effort, probably the last bit of resistance for a while...it won't change over there so there's little that we can do except watch on in horror as firearms flood the country and the bodies pile up.

Sorry to say this, but it's a little late as the outgoing President and I wonder if he'd have fought it vehemently if he had an election to fight. I don't think anyone running for that office will declare they want to change that U.S. commandment; they would instantly have fallen into second place.

Clarkson was offered his old job back at Top Gear before they gave it to Evans. He refused and is set to confirm a new car show with Hammond and May in the next couple of weeks.

Well the bbc now realise Jez and the boys are top gear but it's too late and fair play they said no.
In regards to Chris Evans for as many people he will attract to the new show I think he will drive away just the same, I will definitely not be watching.
In fact Chris Evans is like marmite.

I wouldn't fancy either Clarkson or Evans on a rice cake.

You've answered it yourself. Sure it's a little late to say such things, but how else is he going to tackle the subject.

Wise words too from Jon Stewart here -

People on each coast of the US tend to be more considered and, dare I say it, developed. It's what goes on between those coasts that is very concerning.

Problem is, those gun manufacturers make A LOT of money in the US. And business interests control US policy so turkeys are not going to vote for Christmas.

Public shootings actually have been observed to increase gun sales as people get scared, the wheel keeps on turning, nothing ever changes. People want to talk about a free nation? It's such bollocks and when my wife gets her UK passport this summer she already plans to abandon her US citizenship. What a messed-up place. Hard times.

Not quite sure what you mean by I've answered it myself. My point is that if he really wanted to do something (or another new President or candidate, they'd try and tackle it early in a term or before getting in - they won't though because getting voted in is more important to them. This is why I can't "congratulate" Obama for saying this; it's lip service.

Surely Obama should do something if he's got nothing to lose.

Sounds to me like Jon Stewart should be running for the Democrat ticket. They could do a lot worse!

Do what though? The trouble is they're too far down the dark tunnel of paranoia and lunacy to emerge - it will take a complete change of culture and a million small steps (they really should have more stringent background checks for starters) to really make progress. I wish it would happen, but to be honest, I just think they're too nuts.

    Godders,

Thank you for this throwaway comment (seemingly) a geological age ago. I immediately suggested it to Onionman Jr to a chorus of giggles. He has recently announced that his athlete's foot is now cured thanks to you.

    Thanks,

    Vin
