Bolo Zenden no longer in the running to be Steve McClaren's assistant manager at Newcastle The Dutchman had been tipped for the role, but has decided against joining the backroom staff at St James' Park Bolo Zenden is out of the running to be Steve McClaren’s number two at Newcastle. The new head coach is still finalising his backroom staff and wants and upcoming coach to join his team. Phil Neville, who is doing his Pro-licence, is also out of the frame after turning down a tentative approach. Dutch ace Zenden is assessing his options and has been linked with a return to Liverpool, but won’t be reunited with McClaren who managed him at Boro. McClaren is making sure he gets the right mix behind the scenes. Paul Simpson, his No 2 at Derby County, and Steve Black have been linked with roles.
