That's the problem with numbers quoted in the press. You've no idea what's included. Signing-on fee, agents cut, salary, bonuses, national caps, goals scored, disciplinary record, etc, etc, etc.

The papers mentioned £2m for Ji - but when you read into the deal it included his contractual wages (2 yeaqrs @£10k I believe) and signing on fee - but when you read about others it is just the fee paid up front - seems the papers will print the most controversial number they can find without mentioning the actual transfer fee paid and whet is contained in the deal!

Exactly!! I just take the number quoted with a pinch of salt! It doesn't mean jackshit without the detail.

Half the time it's as you say, to be controversial and headline grabbing. The other half is just lazy journalism.

This looks like it's off lads. Looks like West Ham are going to stump up the fee. Jenkinson won't even have to move house. We've got no chance.

It's not that he didn't want to come, it's just West Ham was his first choice. It would be if he doesn't even have to move house.

    3HAVE YOUR SAY
West Ham are desperate to beat Sunderland to the loan signing of Carl Jenkinson and take the Arsenal defender back to Upton Park.

Sunderland have seen a loan bid accepted by the Gunners for Jenkinson, which would see the Black Cats cover the England Under-21 international’s wages during a season-long stint at the Stadium of Light.

But Jenkinson, himself, is yet to agree to the switch, with West Ham hoping they can gazump Sunderland’s move and seal a loan deal themselves.

Jenkinson - currently with the England U21 squad at the European Championships - enjoyed a successful season-long loan with the Hammers last season and co-chairman David Gold has confirmed that new boss Slaven Bilic wants to re-sign the 23-year-old.

“We know we need a right-back and will work tirelessly to bring in Carl,” Gold told the BBC.

“If that does not work out, we have other irons in the fire.

“We said to Slaven ‘get your priority list and let’s see what we can do’.

“We have a track record of working with our managers.”

Sunderland are in the market for at least one new full-back this summer after the departure of out-of-contract Anthony Reveillere has left Billy Jones and Patrick van Aanholt as the only specialists in that department.

The Black Cats are also planning to make the most of their domestic loan quota, with the club able to sign two players from Premier League rivals.

    Aye, pretty much.
It's the wags in a lot of cases. They prefer Gucci shops over Poundland.

If the wags don`t like it the players should kick them out and buy another.

Yeah mate. In the mid-1990s, BBC did a series of interviews with former greats - Lawton, Matthews, Lofthouse, &co. I remember Len Shackleton telling interviewer Jimmy Armfield "Oh if I'd wanted more caps, Jim, I'd have signed for a London club." London's where you get seen. It was there a good sixty years ago, and now, as Billy's said, the WAGs have more say in it than any 'little wifie' of 1950s. London's shops have more scope for high spenders than Sunderland for sure, and we're stuck with it.

I wouldn't care, there's plenty of charity shops where they could donate their unwanted expensive clothes.
It would give them a sense of satisfaction knowing that they've helped the less well off.

Thats pretty much the problem that Keano found when he was in charge.

He'd meet a potential signing and they'd ask about shopping and **** for the wags.

Keano would be like, WTF!!!!! What the **** has that got to do with anything?

Cheers Relic, I just reckon it's a sad indictment of the game when some players and wives are worried about the location of the club instead of the history of the club and it's fans

Sad indictment of the country fella, Northeast segregation extents to pretty much everything. Especially the way the country is being run and the way the money is distributed, we don't stand a chance we never did. The Region has always been **** on. We'd be much better off being in Scotland.
