Trippier close to signing for Spurs our local news says (and Dyche confirmed in interview). Good signing. I don't see many better right backs around.
Micah Richards on a free for Villa? Could be very good for them, if they can keep him fit. The England right-back position is up for grabs for next summer. He could put his name back in the mix.
He has great workrate and energy, he gets forward and back, he crosses well, he rarely misses a game (or a minute of any game), he's strong and committed - he has a lot going for him IMHO
Who would you say they are Spurcat, out of interest? My league top 3 would be Ivanovic, Clyne and Zabaleta, although Clyne is still a little unproven at the highest level for me and Zabaleta hasn't been going so strong recently as he did a few years ago. Arsenal have that young Bellerin who has potential, they also have Debuchy who seems steady, and Newcastle's Janmaat seems remarkably consistent considering the dross he has to deal with up there. I guess I've named a fair few players there - I guess the real question is where does Trippier fit into the hierarchy? And I honestly couldn't comment on that. Janmaat is the only one of the above I think we'd be in with a realistic shout of getting, and because he's actually half decent, plays for a big club already and is a Dutch international he'd cost more than Trippier and want more of a guarantee about his position in the squad that the Burnley man would. We're probably only buying Trippier to provide backup while we pray that Walker can recover his career or Yedlin can progress quickly anyway. He has the added bonus of bring HG I think too. Pragmatism may have unfortunately (or maybe not, we shall see) trumped ambition here, although with bigger fish out there ambition in the transfer market will only get you so far as your wallet allows these days.
I'd add Azpilicueta and fully fit Walker to the list. It's a bit of an uninspired signing but if he does a job and it leaves us with more money to spend elsewhere then I'm all for it. I have a feeling he might compliment Lamela better too. Walker pushes up too early often pushing Erik back, sometimes it's better just to support them by staying wider and a bit deeper like Charlie Corluka used to do for us.
I’m not feeling optimistic about Walker. Of course I wish him the best, but many players are never the same after a major lower body injury. Sandro is the perfect example. I am hopeful the combination of Trippier and Yedlin on the right, and Rose and Davies on the left, will provide the width, pace and crosses needed to prevent defenders from converging on four central-ish attacking players. Ideally, Yedlin will have a breakthrough year, since he’s probably our paciest player, and we need more pace in the team. But if he doesn’t come through, Trippier is a solid alternative, I think: a good, if not very good, proven PL right back who will run and cross all game.
The Metro are reporting that Utd are gonna go for the Dutch keeper, Cillesson or something. I closed the tab and i'm too lazy to link it. Because they're apprehensive about having to deal with Levy Also, we want Cabaye apparently
I think Levy realizes perfectly well that selling a player to Man U will make the rumor mill and the tapping up rise even beyond it’s present fever pitch. I feel that if a player plays a couple of years here, gets a chance to move to a bigger club and wants to take it, we should let him. It helps pay for the stadium, for one thing. But never to a PL club. There are a lot of rumors around a few players. Cabaye is one I don’t take seriously. On the face of it, it’s an interesting proposition. We haven’t had a real deep lying playmaker, and, arguably, need one. But I can’t see us going for a 29 year old when it would block the progress of a number of other players, including Mason and Carroll, and, arguably, Bentaleb and Alli. I think Martial may be one that will happen. We need pace, especially on the right, and a good, fast, very young striker who could play on both wings ticks a lot of boxes. I fail to understand the Bentecke rumors completely. Why would we want an established striker when we’re one of a handful of teams he wouldn’t start for? The one reason to get him, aside from the desire to assemble Team Belgium, is to keep him from going to Liverpool or Arsenal. Salah would be a good choice, but I can’t see Mourinho selling to us. Konogdbia is the new Schneiderlin. It would be funny if we put in a bid merely to drive up his price for Arsenal. Imbula’s another deep lying player we’ve been linked with frequently who I think is going nowhere near WHL. There is something to be said for buying the right deep lying player. But so many of our best young players play there that it’s probably a better idea to gamble on them continuing to develop.
From his performances at Newcastle Cabaye would seem to be a player we would make good use of at Spurs, however he hasn't ever nailed down a spot at PSG as far as I'm aware, and at the age of 29 I wouldn't want to be paying anything like the reported £19 million PSG forked out for him. That said, he's quite an experienced player, with lots of games in English football and he's won a few trophies too, so he'd be a good older head to have around the squad, as well as probably being able to make a very significant contribution on the pitch too.
I wonder if all the rumors about deeper lying players are the result of Pochettino feeling he needs to get one player in the "2" who really knows what he’s doing, partly for our young players to learn from.
He might even want to upgrade both. Bentaleb and Mason are both good players, but the balance isn't right, for me. Wouldn't mind seeing Carroll chucked into the mix and Mason pushed further forward, but it wouldn't be strong enough for the league every week.
I could see Mason struggling next year. Hypothetical situation - we sell Capoue, Paulinho and Dembele, buy Cabaye, and we have Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll, Cabaye, Stambouli and Alli to select from next year, Mason for me is one (apart from young Alli) who might come out worst - we know that Bentaleb and Stambouli can do a good job of protecting the back 4, we know Carroll is a strong passer of the ball and gets involved further up the pitch, and we would know what we should be getting from Cabaye. What I'm trying to say is that as much as I love Mason's commitment to the club, and he clearly is a good player, I'm not sure he will have what it takes to nail down a starting place next year for himself in the '2' no matter who we sign to replace the players who leave. I could however see him backing up Eriksen for the no. 10 spot, as Mason and Kane have an understanding of sorts because of their history and I think that we might see the best results of his high work rate and strong shooting skills off both feet a bit further up the pitch.
Greetings fellow Tottenham supporters, I am new to this forum and thought this thread was a good place to start my posting. I love all the speculation at this time of year, and I try to keep up with as many of the sources as possible. Even the stuff about players leaving fascinates me, even though some of it makes my blood boil. This summer I really don’t want to see that much movement. I, like most of us would happily see Adebayor, Capoue, Kaboul and Paulinho depart. That would not in my opinion make us any weaker as these were all bit part players at best last season. Trippier looks likely to be coming and that’s one of those I am quite ambivalent about, personally I was hoping Yedlin would be given the chance to be Walkers understudy, but possibly he would actually benefit more from a season of regular football in this country at a good championship side, (maybe Burnley could could be offered him on a season long loan as part of the Tripper deal?). I have just one type of player on my wish list for the summer and that is another striker, a small quick low centre of gravity striker to offer an alternative to Kane, that could be Martial, (I actually think it could be Lamela). I understand that Pochettino may want a couple more players that suit his gameplan better and that’s fine, but ideally I think our match day squad at Old Trafford on August 8th (or 9th more likely) should contain at least 13 players that are already at the club.
Today's Yedlin rumour: he'll be loaned to Norwich for the season. It's slightly odd that different papers have different opinions about which French defensive midfielder we'll be paying in excess of £20m for: some papers are saying it'll be Kondogbia, while others are saying that we're sneaking ahead in the race to sign Schneiderlin. Marca, meanwhile, seem to be using us to troll Barca, linking us with Sergi Roberto.
