Sort of a paper anyway. It's usually full of recycled "news" that's already been done to death everywhere else. I do agree that this particular article seems quite positive about our trajectory though. The Bournemouth section in the article did describe Saints games as derbies but I suppose they have to try and create an illusion that the 2 clubs are local rivals now there's nobody else closer than London.

It may not be the derby, but it is a derby. They are our nearest club and they play in the same division. For example, Chelsea v WHU is a derby, if not the derby for either club. In fact, Chelsea's geographical derby is probably against Fulham. :)

Next season, Pompey's derby will be against Eastleigh.

Okay, just for that. It's not a bloody derby. <wizard>

Don't they refer to our matches with Brighton as a South Coast Derby when in geographical terms Chelsea are nearer. And what about the "Dockyard Derby" between Pompey and Plymouth (250 miles mas o menor)

Yeah but Bournemouth IS local enough to be considered a derby, I wouldn't say it's a rivalry but it's definitely a local game which I'm looking forward to.

Interesting what constitutes a derby. Geographical location would be the governing factor, alongside being able to play the opposition, by being in the same division. Just looked up a few distances. Derby [who else] v Nottingham is 15 miles, along Brian Clough Way, incidentally.
Manchester v Liverpool is 35 miles. Southampton v Bournemouth is 33 miles. Southampton v Portsmouth is 22 miles.

The Saints v Cherries derby will definitely become bigger in many people's eyes the more we play them. So they will just have to stay in the PL. There may come a time when sage old men will wipe their eyes and remember when the Saints derby was against Pompey. And their great grandchildren will ask.. **did they have a football team back then.? :)

**just a joke. Don't lose it PL.

That doesn't suprise me, to a lot of people football doesn't even exist outside the PL.

PFC, God bless 'em, are odds on favourites for promotion this coming season so a local derby would seem unlikely.
