he was always going to go if we didnt get promoted......so good luck to the lad. Personally, his performances were too hit and mis for me. So far, I like what hear and see coming out of FP with Cook, a fresh start that is cutting the old ties of the almost inhouse mentality. Kyle Bennett is a great signing
Yep, good signing with the added benefit of upsetting Paul Dickov! Sounds great.Bennett is an attacking midfielder "known for his blistering pace and close ball control as well as having the ability to fire the ball at goal with venom".
Have read that we are being linked with out of contract 23 year old Chesterfield ball winning midfielder Sam Morsy. Apparently very highly rated by Paul Cook who took him to Chesterfield from Port Vale.
I hope we don't end up nicking half the Chesterfield team. The manager, fitness coach and one or two players is enough.
I understand Taylor & Fogden have not been given new contracts. My impression -gained only from reading reports - was that Taylor had a hard time up front, often by himself, in the first half of the season but was winning fans in the latter stages, particularly after Tubbs came. Fogden seemed to be regarded as one of the better and more determined players and his injury was viewed, at the time, as a major blow. Since regaining fitness I have not read glowing reports of his return although I think he has been largely on the bench and only had a couple of full games. While Cook's 'new broom' approach is currently judged to be refreshing, discharging the above two players, and perhaps some others, would seem to hint at rashness to me. I am not aware how managers operate but coming to a new club where one of the first duties is to determine which existing out of contract players will be retained one would think an initial task would be to watch videos of all of Pompey's games last season. A long and perhaps boring task requiring considerable application . I wonder if this has been done. The other point of reference would be the opinions of others in the club who's opinions could be respected - but most of these have been replaced. My optimism is cautious.
PDU I think many of us felt that Taylor and Fogden were both unlucky not to be retained....I really liked Taylor his work rate was only bettered by Wallace and Fogden when fit was an above average Lg1 player. I suspect injury prone fears were part of his release but Taylors I don't know, he will be snapped up. I'm trusting this guy as he strikes me as focussed and driven....and Pompey need that. His slightly ruthless edge may be what galvanizes and under achieving team into action.
Pompey have made their second new signing - 23 year old winger/striker/attacking midfielder Kal Naismith for an undisclosed fee from Accrington Stanley. Signed a 3 year contract. Ex Glasgow Rangers youth player, and a big lad at 6'1" in height. Who's next one wonders ?!
BBC Solent Sport @solentsport 17s17 seconds ago #pompey latest is that Chesterfield have rejected #Pompey's first bid for Gary Roberts 0 retweets 0 favorites
So, Craig Westcarr has left Fratton Park on a free transfer to Mansfield Town. Says he wasn't "pushed out" by Paul Cook, despite repeated rumours that the two of them didn't get on. Personally, I never rated him last season, but no doubt he will come back to haunt us Also, Danny East has joined Grimsby Town on a one year contract. Still only 23, so time is on his side for getting back into the football league
I liked Danny East......but when i saw him on the rare occasion he featured he never really looked comfortable in front of a big noisy crowd.......but that could be said of a few of them ........so personally I am all for a "wipe the slate clean" approach.......its been needed for years!
We have signed 24 year old Republic of Ireland left back Enda Stevens on a two year contract from Aston Villa, on a free transfer. He spent last season on loan to Doncaster Rovers and was a first team regular.
Apparently, Gary Roberts is on his way to Fratton Park, with Pompey having agreed a fee with Chesterfield. He is the player Paul Cook most wanted to sign. Free agent Michael Doyle from Sheff. Utd also could sign, but Chesterfield midfielder Jimmy Ryan may be on his way to Fleetwood Town on a free.
Probably, but surely it is better to hear of players coming in than listening to the list who are being sold? At least, it's better to hear about the former first!
Good news that young defender Adam Webster has signed a new two year contract to stay at Pompey. We are allegedly after Peterborough central defender Christian Burgess, and his team mate Joe Newell a full back/winger/midfielder.
