Let not think this is an isolated case<ok>

Lets look inside our own club, Eto'o, Distin and Mirallas have all seemed to have done similar things this season

All slightly different scenarios in fairness.

Distin fell out with Martinez, Eto'o was **** stirring pointed in the direction of the exit and Mirallas has denied the stories linking him witha move away.

Not the same as Sterling speaking to the beeb without LFC's press office approval and selling his club down the swanny on the eve of a big game

    The lad's a **** PJ.

But look at Martinez's reaction to it compared to Rodgers/Sterling

"Everton boss Roberto Martinez says he is happy for Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas to talk about their ambitions but will come down on the pair like a ton of bricks if they are disrespectful about the Toffees."

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ue-title-satisfy-ambitions-Romelu-Lukaku.html

Rodgers has kissed Sterling's rusty bullet hole in public instead of publically putting his foot down on Sterling for the disrespect he's shown to LFC.

    Well put mate..
We all could play party politics and have a dig at Liverpool in this instance based on our affiliation elsewhere.. but the facts of the matter are..

1 - From a young age, he's been given game time, played with World class player(s)
2 - Been offered a good wage.. and now a very good contract
3 - Will be certain to be the 1st name on the sheet week in week out where he can continue to develop.
4 - If he puts in a shift, he'll surely help Liverpool to contend for the odd trophy (not sure we'll be knocking on the league champs door anytime soon though)
5 - In a few years time, should the #4 not materialise and he continues to have developed, he could have the pick of teams, all over Europe, not just the likes of City, Arsenal!

I may be biased, but a renewal of his contract to £100/Week, with release clause if we don't get CL would have been nothing but Win Win for him...
This is without doubt the worst bit of advice I've seen given to a player, by an agent, since Odemwinge was driven to the gates of QPR when no deal was in place, funny enough, by the same agent!

Well I would say his ego has been fed by his manager

Just beat me to it, his ego has been fed by the manager, a man well known for flapping his gums and loving the press attention. Sterling is well within his rights to reject a deal and hold out for what he wants for his future.

Manager, player and agent along with owners have all had a hand in this mess<ok>

I totally agree that the player holds the key to his own future, after he's listened to arguments like those that Johnny made in his posts and seeing the benefits of staying as "first name on the teamsheet" he's decided his agent knows what's best for him.

But if he wants to leave he should have told the feller who works for him(the agent)to do the business behind closed doors with LFC and to show respect, but his "Raheem won't sign a new contract even if its for £1m" rant and the BBC interview have now made the player a hate figure by a majority of reds.
I was at the ROI v England game a couple of weeks back and the reds in the crowd gave him terrible grief(deservedly so imo), if he doesn't respect the club the club should show him no respect in return, but so far the tails wagging the dog.

Just goes to show how nieve he really is...
His ego may have been feed by Rodgers comments in public, but you think he says that to him in private?
He's saying that in public because he doesn't want to throw him under the bus...
Rodgers has shown great faith in his abilities in playing him week in week out and he gets rewarded this way?
He gets offered a huge contract (Rodgers hasn't gone public with the figures, wouldn't surprise me if the figures were leaked by Sterlings agent!), all he said he's been offered a good deal..
When he rejected it, Rodgers didn't say it was rejected, simply that we'd have further discussions at a latter date..
Only time we have reacted (cancelled the after season talks) to Sterling and his Agent is when his Agent came out in public and made comments about we ain't signing anything, not for £900K/Week.. then went on to slag off Cara which I guess was the last straw..

Again, maybe blinkered myself but we've done nothing but back the lad in public!

Anyway.. he's going, there's no going back now for him or us!
Thing is, he could of left like Alonso and still be loved but he's leaving like Torres...

The priority has shifted, its a case of what's best for us, not the player, the more teams get involved in a bidding war, the better for us..
Maximise the money or money+player deal we can get for him and for the love of God, don't do with the money what we did last season!

As a fan I have been in the position with Rooney, the only time I had any ill feeling towards him was the badge kissing(he got some horrible abuse that game). We were in no position to help him reach his level/meet his ambitions and he has shown how good a player he was/could be in the years since.

With Sterling I still feel the whole situation has been played in the press by the agent and club badly.

I honestly can't see how the club have played it in the press badly, they haven't bad mouthed him, they tried to persuade him to stay but are now prepared to sell, Rodgers has built him up out of all proportion in the press.
His agent has dissed the club in the media and Sterling has also with his bbc interview.

The club's valuation of him reflects their determination to keep him but his determination to leave will win in the end, I just wish it was done and dusted because i don't want him taking part in our preseason tour, he shouldn't pull the shirt on ever again if his future is elsewhere.

Agreed, I'd like to see comments we have made about him public that are negative towards him and his contract situation?
Not seen them myself, but the doesn't mean there aren't any!

Our ex-players have give him stick bigtime and he's been slated on social media sites by supporters but like you I haven't seen one official club comment where they say anything derogatory about the player, but probably unlike you I think the club should have put the little prick in his place at the first opportunity in the press and on tv, and if Rodgers wasn't man enough to do it Ayers could have come on as sub and done what was needed, it pisses me off that Sterling has caused a **** storm for the club andwill move away without John Henry's boot mark on his fat arse and with a percentage of his transfer fee because he never put in a formal transfer request.

Rodgers has used his position as manager and that of current and former players in the press to put pressure on Sterling.

I do agree that once he set his heart on leaving then it should be a deal that gets done quickly and on Liverpools terms. However with the relationship between player/manager and club i dont think you will rinse any club for really silly money...My guess is about £40m with add ons on top.

    We could play hard ball..
He doesn't have a release clause in his current contract.. we have a valuation, if met we'll sell. if not, he's still our player.
If he wants to move on and still get his "loyalty" payment, then he may be in for a shock, if he really wants to move on for the "trophies" he'll put in a transfer request...
Its the only leverage we have on him right now and I don't think we should weaken our position unless we get right deal for us!

Bit pie in the sky.. unless you have a LFC Confidential Memo that was sent to all ex-players asking them to have a dig...

Rodgers used is position as manager.. what else do you expect to have said and done? "Yeah, he's a bit of a money grabbing lazy in training, father of 10.. so any bid over £10m and he's yours..." come on.. he's not slagged him off in public from what I can recall, happy to be wrong if there is a clip or article out there that proves otherwise..

My take on this is that everyone looks bad.

Sterling and his agent have handled this terribly but the number of leaks to the press is very worrying and I think that comes from the club. Those leaks only seem to come out once Sterling said he wanted to discuss the contracts at the end of the season.

Since then, leak after leak where it all made Sterling look like the bad person in the whole thing - then it sparked the unauthorised interviews etc and it's spiralled out of control. I think bullying is the wrong word to use but they have certainly applied pressure on him.

Like I said, everyone looks bad but the club have handled this poorly just as much as Sterling has. And I reiterate - the underlying issue behind all of this is that Sterling probably think he's outgrown the club and can win stuff elsewhere, which is actually true. Fact is, Sterling is one of our best players and it's criminal that the club have done that - Sterling should in the same position as he was last season - being the understudy for top class players.
