See that's what comes of having an Indonesia wife. They prefer to see tangible assets that they can get their hands on in the case of wrong doing rather than squirrelling it away in an investment she may not be able to get hold of!

Most businesses lease vehicles mate. As a lease is off balance sheet funding and therefore doesn't tie up their credit lines for capital expenditure. In addition as it's a P&L cost, it reduces the net profit and therefore the tax bill.

Shame you can't lease them as well mate, swap them in every 2 years for a new model.

    Well in <ok>

We should seriously look into this. Agree the fixed terms when we hook up. Nice gal, good bodywork = 5 year contract. Exciting but tiresome and likely to cause trouble = 1 year contract.

Always leave a clause for an extension in case you get smitten...

Joking aside we should take some advice off the Russians here lads.

I was at a corporate event in Europe a while back and there was loads of middle aged Russian businessmen with proper fit young women on their arms. I ended up talking to one who told me that it was common for contracts to be agreed were the woman would agree to partner the bloke for a fixed period, sometimes with children thrown into the mix, but after a set time he could weigh them in for a new model and she'd take a pre-agreed wedge of cash in compensation.

When I was looking it asks yor how much he annual mileage and obviously bumps up cost a bit more you do... I'd do about 20k a year so if you go over just have to pay any additional so would be on safe side and make sure chose high enough allowance.

Thats the thing. I wouldn't ever go buy brand new, only ever buying 2 or 3 years old but then still looking at about 10k and after 3 or 4 years will only be worth 2 or 3k so just losing money when wanting to then buy another newish one for another 10k. This way get brand new and only have to find small deposit every couple of years.

Didnt realise was different options, will need to look into that.

Dont want to be tied into buying the thing after 2 years though, be a nice to have option but would probably want to just pick up another new car instead.

You're missing the point mate. Yes you are committed to doing something at the end of the agreement as there's a final payment (balloon), but ending up owning the thing isn't the route that the vast majority take, as most will have changed the car at around 24 months into a 36 month agreement, when the point of parity is reached.

I'll have to have a look. Only briefly looked at it last night and ones I was looking at seemed like could do a 24 month contract, pay a 'deposit' first month of 3x normal monthly payment then followed by 23 monthly payments.

At the end of 2 years could either pay a fee to own it or just walk away and go get another contract...

I'll have to look at different options of there are different ways of doing it then

First time ive ever looked into it so not really up on all the differences Or ways it can work

Same but even more temporary arrangement provided here in Indonesia, specially aimed at Arabic Muslim tourists. They come to Indonesia, take an Indonesian as an official 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th wife for a few weeks holiday and then divorce her on leaving. They get to spend a month with essentially a long term prostitute and its all Kosher (maybe not the right word) according to their religious beliefs.
Anybody wanting to try it I am happy to arrange for a small commission. Best not to make it a family holiday though.
