Morning all from a horribly humid Weston-super-Mare! Have a good day! Andy, you're about as lovely as I am! On a scale of 1 - 10, that's about minus 1000
Not sure about whether I should put this here but I have a 5 hour stop over in Frankfurt airport on Thursday. Will I have time for a quick visit to the city and, if so, where should I go? I have not been there before. Also, is security as difficult as some of the reviews on the airport suggest?

Little Ak is starting to look for a place in a university and wants to study business management with modern languages. Aston University in Birmingham have a suitable course but is this a good school?
Morning all from a cloudy St. Helier. Ak, I don't know if this will help: http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/aston/ There is also UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) which should also be able to help. Their website is https://www.ucas.com although for some reason, I can't access it but that might just be my computer. I assume that there is a British Embassy/Consulate in Reykjavik, I don't know if they might also be able to help in finding information for you.
From Frankfurt Airport (assuming that you are going there and not Frankfurt Hahn) you need to go to terminal 1 concourse B - Frankfurt Flughafen Regionalbahnhof. From there you can get the S-Bahn line S8 or S9 into the city. The journey takes about 15 mins. Frankfurt has 2 faces - the banking quarter, named Mainhattan which has a skyline dominated by skyscrapers like any American city (Yuck). I would turn my back on this and head for the old town (Altstadt) - the Kaiserstraße, which has lots of smaller shops, restaurants and cafes. The Brauchbachstraße and Römerberg which border the cathedral. The Altstadt is reachable from the central station (20 mins. walk) or the underground U4 and U5 leaving the train at Dom/Römer. Frankfurt airport is the busiest in Germany and security is probably higher than it would be at eg. Cologne/Bonn - other than that I can't say much on this.
http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings?s=Business & Management Studies as above this compares and contrasts... BUT you have to like: the town the people and then the course...
Ak Aston University is almost in the centre of Birmingham, 10 minutes walk down Corporation Street. Across the road is the City of Birmingham University, not to be confused with the Birminham University which is in Edgbaston

We have missed one open day at Aston University but I am sure there will be more. I don't know why Little Ak does not wish to attend Háskóli Íslands except for they do not have this course, much engineering and environment subjects.
A very good day here for doing a few jobs. Dry and not too warm, yet I am stuck within range of my telephone. Saturday afternoon my car broke down in Limoges when the clutch pedal went down to the floor and wouldn't allow me to change gear. With the car stuck right in front of a very busy Jardiland I had to call out the breakdown service who came with a large lorry which blocked access in and out for people for approximately 15 minutes. The breakdown service transferred the car yesterday morning to the main dealer who after seeing me is going to inspect the car and phone me back with the bad news on cost. In the old days when cars were simple you could see for yourself what was wrong, but look under my bonnet and there are covers that have to be removed before you can see the mass of pipes, black boxes and wiring. The garage might have a surprise if they open the boot. It has a dozen paving slabs in there.
I see the Foo Fighters have had to cancel their tour. I had a ticket to their Wembley show for Saturday. That's twice in a week, I got all the way to the Royal Albert Hall last Tuesday for the Tony Bennett / Lady Gaga gig which was cancelled when Tony went down with flu... no fun at 88. At least Dave Grohl only broke his fibula and not something more serious.
