Kemps is right, Ocean Colour Scene are a brilliant live band. As are Killing Joke. Though neither reached the heady heights of The Clash, who were a spectacularly good live band.
Which doesn't alter the fact he is referred to as Da Vinci. It wasn't the Leonardo Exhibition in London. No one refers to Leonardo's painting of The Last Supper. And, of course, neither was it the Leonardo Code for these very reasons.
So what are we talking about here - ability to play live as a band or the actual songs they create? I'm not disputing for one minute they might be talented musicians, I'm saying that in my opinion OCS's songs are ****. I'm sure there are shedloads of technically gifted covers bands but they would never get the credibility.
It's not wrong to call someone by the name they are most commonly known by. It's not wrong to call Paul Gasgoine 'Gazza', it might not be his real name, but it's what everyone knows him as, so it's perfectly reasonable to refer to him as such.
That's a nickname for him from his own name, da Vinci could be used to refer to anyone who has ever lived in Vinci. So why do it? If anything it's easier to refer to Leanoardo. My point is - if I have one - it just doesnt make sense. It's not offensive, it's just weird. He's Leonardo, done.

I assume that anyone mentions Morcambe and Wise, you correct them and tell them that they should be referred to as Batholomew and Wise, so as not to be confused with anyone else from Morcambe?
Aerosmith. Wrinkly ballads and arm tassles. Yet they're rock?!? Really soft, gutless band who make dull songs. Even their 80s stuff, when they were meant to be more rock, was limp and sanitised. A case of style over substance. No no no.
Sorry Chinner but The Beatles as a group were the powehouse of pop, individually all 4 had their fans and varying degees of success in their solo careers. The Stones on the other hand kept it together even though Mick and Keith made solo albums, Charlie played in R&B clubs away from the Stones the main focus was as a whole. The Beatles of course imploded and as with most things in time their importance in the music scene is dimminishing. Having said that I was pleasantly surprised to find my 13 year old granddaughter playing Beatle tracks on her Ipod not so long back which made me smile. As for Lennon's own stuff like most artists it was up and down in quality but I find it hard to come up with a song as hauntingly beautiful as Lennon's In My Life.
I have a very broad church in terms of music I like but I've never 'got' Queen. I just can't find anything to like ( with the exception of the Wayne's World Bohemian Rhapsody moment) More recently Maroon 5 really grate on me. I don't really know why, although it might be made worse because Mrs Tash likes them so I occasionally get aurally assaulted by their God awful racket
But In My Life was a Beatles era song not a Lennon solo effort. They complemented each other, Lennon reining in MCartney when he was too sloppy and McCartney stopping Lennon going over the top. Ironically McCartney wrote some of their best rockers and Lennon some of their best gentle ones.
Hi Castro, I was always of the belief that In My Life was a Lennon solo effort much in the vein of Yesterday for McCartney, neither contributed to those particular songs but they were still grouped under The Beatles umbrella.
You are indeed correct. But the discussion was about Lennon's solo work after leaving the Beatles containing a lot of bilge so quoting a song he wrote whilst with the Beatles at the height of their success is a bit irrelevant to the discussion. Easy to work out who wrote what with the Beatles. The main writer took the lead vocals.
