So I've had my car for a while now and feel it's time for an upgrade.. my car hasn't really had any issues but just fancy something new with a bigger engine (mines only 1.4) and the fact I do motorway driving every day feel the extra power would be handy. So was looking to sell mine and wouldn't get an awful lot for it but was contemplating leasing a car for 2 years instead of trying to buy another 2nd hand one. Anyone leased a car and got any thoughts? As far as I can see benefits are good: Get brand new car every 2 years Don't have to worry about depreciation when trying to sell at the end Can include extra per month to have services and repairs included etc If can try and keep on topic and sensible for at least first few page would be appreciated
If you lease a car, don't you have to put a reasonable priced deposit down on it that you're unlikely to get back? I know someone that leases their car. Pays £2k deposit and around £150pcm, plus gets a brand new car every two years. Seems expensive but works out at a total cost of £5,600. If you bought a brand new car, you probably wouldn't get anything as good but if you did you would instantly lose more than the £5,600 when you drove it off the forecourt, never mind how much it would be hit by depreciation by the time two years is up. #sensiblepost
Always like to buy outright personally with stuff like cars, and if not new then very near new as with anything else it's hard to know how the car (in this case) has been treated and driven, I take it the car you will lease will be new from what you've said So, no, never leased one and probably wouldn't do in future as it's nice to own a car for a while and get to know it and drive it properly Other thing is you're reliant on the company you lease from staying solvent and in business, would be uncomfortable knowing the car isn't fully mine What cars you lookin at?? And yep more power and better all round performance is def better for motorway use
Well had a look and most say you put down 3x monthly amount as a initial payment, then 23 monthly payments so 900 first month, 300 the rest for example. As you say, I worked it out and can get a brand new car each year for about 5 or 6k with road tac paid and if add another 20-30 a month can get services and repairs included etc. I would never normally buy a brand new car for exact reason you say, so normally go 2 or 3 years old but you're still looking at about 10k for decent one. Was looking at VW Golf 2.0.
Yeah it's brand new car which I def couldn't afford to buy outright and wouldn't want to due to losing money after driving it off forecourt
I'm guessing the "deposit" I said was a initial down payment then making monthly payments cheaper. They (companies) seem to have a habit of calling initial payments deposits. How long you been driving? A 2.0 Golf would be a tidy sum on insurance.
On average, I think, depreciation from new is about 30% of the new price of the car... depends on make and model of course
7 1/2 years now - no accidents (#nojinx) Need to look a insurance amounts to see how much certain cars would be, as you say would be a bit more than my current insurance amount.
You looking at petrol or diesel...? It won't be the engine size that makes the insurance high (obviously won't help though), it will be the model of car. I'm driving a 2l Ford C-Max and it costs me less than when I was driving my 1.4 MG ZR some five-seven years ago despite not getting any more no claims discount since
I always wanted petrol but got a diesel now, nearly halved my fuel bill despite having a bigger engine! (Previous car was a petrol 1.8 Avensis)
Bein old also helps bring the insurance down... which is why i pay thru the nose and you all pay a pittance
Yeah not overly fussed to be honest... diesel would save the money so wouldn't say no just because of that
