Why bother with the Jam when you can listen to the Small Faces? Ven Weller's look was a tribute to Stevie Marriott.
As Count Basie said, when someone was discussing different types of music, "There are only two types of music. Good and bad". What is good or bad is subjective. The only thing that matters is if you enjoy it. Going on about pop bands influencing society and culture is just pretentious nonsense giving it an importance it doesn't merit.
I can think of one good reason: I prefer The Jam to the Small Faces. By quite a distance. I like them both though - why can you only pick one?
One thing that's always puzzled me is I can quite happily watch and listen to live music I'd never listen to anywhere else. Except country and western. Just can't abide it at all.
Johnny Marr plays really well, I like the music, some of the lyrics are very good but, **** me, is there a more precious **** in the music industry than Morrissey? His ****ing dreary, monotous voice is shocking. Best thing about The Smiths? There's no danger of them ever reforming cos' the rest of the band hate the whiny ****.
To be fair, I watched her at Glasto last year and she wasn't bad. I was pretty pissed though, which might explain it.
Pink Floyd, Led zeppelin, Queen and Coldplay for me. Most of the stuff I listen to doesn't feature on the radar enough for people not to get it!
As a 20 year old, even though most people one here have heard of my musical tastes, people would genuinely look at me in College wondering what the hell Joy Division, The Smiths or Nirvana was. Those same people sit there thinking Kanye West is the greatest musician in history...
Someone once asked me why Dave Grohl left Nirvana to join Foo Fighters. I could've cried. They followed it up with "oh, is that why Nirvana haven't released an album since he left?"
Here are some more opinions that may well be facts. Morrissey can do no wrong. Marr is the greatest arranger of guitar, bass and drums of all time. Oasis were so much better than Blur that it's embarrassing that the question was even asked. Lennon was a genius. McCartney wasn't. Fruitloops like Zappa, Beefheart and Mark E Smith are, well fruitloops. Nowt wrong with that, they just are. If you get them, you get them. If you don't ,you don't. Genius's don't have to live in fields as implied above. That would be daft. They can live in houses if they so desire. It is also my opinion that this thread will run for a thousand years. Or until we regain Premier League status. Whichever comes first.
You can actually feel the passion for this subject on here. I ****ing love that! But I do have one problem with the subjectiveness thing. We all like what we like, but that whole idea kind of falls down on it's knees when people state their love of, 1D, Chazz&Dave or Muse etc...
The Beatles weren't even the best band from Liverpool, that distinction belongs to The La's. Let the hate begin.
