That just highlights your ignorance on the subject, try listening to some actual modern R&B and not the pop/r&b/hip-hop hybrids in the charts and you might change your mind.
Give some examples of 'actual modern R&B' artists we should look out for then. Because it's probably ****.
Think you're spiting hairs over our definitions That's what I'm referring to as that's the way society views r&b as being. You're kind of adding to my point. R&B is being dragged into the mud by these people. There's plenty of R&B artists kicking about I like but I just call them R&B out of respect, not the Modern R&B in bold where society has changed the definition. I wouldn't dream of putting them together, it would be an insult.
Music evolves and changes, genres develop, it's what makes music great, what people perceive as modern R&B is still R&B, it just draws its influences from other genres as well. It's not an insult to compare the two, one gave birth to the other, just because you don't like the direction the genre has developed doesn't make it any less valid.
On of the most over rated bands of all time. One classic song, a couple of decent ones before Morrison spiralled out of control into pretentious megalomania. Someone mentioned Elvis being fat and bloated but it took him a lot longer to turn from a sex symbol to grossness than Morrison.
Red Hot Chili Peppers. A triumph of style over substance. They're branded as some sort of punk rock band - but they just do that silly funk thing on the guitar which is so lame. They claim to be influenced by the Ramones. WTF?
