I feel Chambers struggles on the flank, Weighty. Not so much defensively, where he has admittedly put in some good performances, but mainly in terms of his attacking outlet. We usually play with a system that puts emphasis on our full-backs roaming forwards to provide crosses/support for wingers. Mings can do this, as a player that usually balances defensive responsibilities with an attacking threat. Chambers, unfortunately, I feel struggles in this respect. How many times have we seen, over the course of the season, a promising attack broken down because of Chambers' erratic crossing? Plus, for me, he doesn't look too composed on the ball when he ventures over the half-way line. He has apparently said he prefers playing centre-back, and it's a role he's well suited to play. I think our defence would look, and operate, better with a backline of Mings, Berra, Chambers, and a new right back.
He does prefer CB he doesn't enjoy RB but unlike K.Dyer throwing toys out of the pram would do anything for the side. Agree, get a new RB in. Pretty sure Mings will be sold this summer, so Parr @ LB which is fine by me. Unless M.Clark has it, then that'd be another untried and potentially good LB !
I still think Chambers is suspect defensively also Nuggets, he gets caught out of position not so much toward the end of the season but ever since he's played there it's quite clear to me even defensively he isn't positionally that sound.
It was a tongue in cheek comment tbh............although I think with a decent confident winger in front of him things would look better...........and I also think he has done a good job at RB for the most part.
Chambers is definitely a Mick sort of player,100% committed and hats off to his attitude in playing out of position in order to help the team. It's frequently been suggested we might be better with a 3/5 man defence with Mings and Parr as wing backs-would love it if Mick would consider it a possibility.
I agree about the 532, however that would require our CBs coming out with the ball and having quite a fluid team which we don't. I watched when Mick tried it once and we look very disjointed
" I feel Chambers struggles on the flank, Weighty. Not so much defensively, where he has admittedly put in some good performances, but mainly in terms of his attacking outlet." Chambers at times weirdly bottles so much at RB it's untrue interms of tackles. Positionally he's often miles out, please get him to CB. This 3-5-2 discussion is an interesting one. We'd need at least two ballers at CB for it to work, Smith/Chambers/ Berra in a 3 would be awful. No pace, no distribution ability it wouldn't work in my opinion. Really interested as to who does what. Appears Donnolly/ Henshall may well get a chance to impress pre-season. Looks like Stewart is done. Really interested to see the other Irish lad CM who can now play now the tapes done. Apparently similar ability to Teddy! We've signed a defender from Cardiff already haven't we.
Surely he's not so young that he hasn't been given a name yet............I know we want to look to the youth but that's taking the Farleys rusk.
Will you keep Bishop? Seems he has been a naughty boy. http://www1.skysports.com/football/...dy-bishop-charged-with-breaking-betting-rules
the only two players we have that could have stayed in the team had we gone up are Mings and Bish, maybe mcgoldrick but the rest are decent championship players that punched above their weight under excellent management from super mick and terry c. I'm not saying clear em all out, but we need to add the quality that gives us a core of players that could stick together and cling on in a season back in the prem. that requires goals up front, some calm passing and creative midfield and a defence that can keep it tight and calm. It's a big ask, these players are what everyone wants afterall but with clever use of freebies and investing in wages over inflated transfer fees mick could build a team that can emulate Southampton, Norwich, palace, Stoke...who all had a tight team spirit and core that kept them up in the first season up in the big time.
Alhare I think there are a few who given the right circumstances could step up to the plate in the PL. Chambers, Berra, Skuse, Sears and Murphy (on current form) I think could've done a job. Bishop could definitely in time make the step up, however he needs to get more games under his belt and show a bit more consistency and I have no idea about Mings, I still haven't come to the conclusion when we talk about him being a PL player if PL stands for Premier League or Pub League yet!! No doubt we would have required a few players but I believe more so improvement in how we play. We need to improve our possession play quite substantially
Apparently we've offered you £4m for both Mings and Bishop, with Bishop to go back on season long loan to you. Bit surprising, if you ask me, given the feeling amongst fans - and I imagine you'd hold out for nearer £6m? But we do like buying and then loaning back players at the moment, so it could hold water. Plus we need another left back having lost Garrido
good one rob! so whats the going like on when you boys will turn against your manager as I need some inside info for a bet! most people are saying it will take 10 games for your fickle lot to turn on him, I on the other hand reckon it will take the first 45mins for the boo's to start, 4 to 5 for the season tickets to start getting ripped.
