****ing budget option again from FSG. yet another indication that they are selling. Promoting an u16 coach is perfect for them, cheap and cheerful and not too much of an encumbrance for any new owner to sack for pennies.
ah here. c'mon. very good? he got 10 games in the league most as sub and got 2 goals total... that says a lot about that league cos its noncompetitive at the low end of it. they used him early in europa and in early rounds of copa. he did quiet well agasint lower league team in copa thats all. got two hat tricks against a nobody side over two legs... 1 goal in europa and so... no he did not do "very well" IMO He got shovelled out the door. Sevilla are a low spend club hwo took him in seeing if he was any good for them and ended up making a small loss on the deal. For the record the moment he got here he was totally anonymous... you cannot blame coaching for that end of. focus on the BAD SIGNING cos thats what he was.
It is confirmed that we sold him http://www.espnfc.co.uk/story/2489934/iago-aspas-set-to-return-to-celta-vigo-from-sevilla the move to sell him on is supposedly well advanced
Pepjin Linders is a world class youth coach by all accounts and we did well to poach him from Porto. But youth coaching and first team coaching are two different worlds. Would be annoyed if we did promote him instead of getting in quality like Rene and Pako.
if you read aspas comments he was bought and said by rodgers to be a fighter... well he's run out of our club after a wet weekend whinging about competition and he's run out of sevilla saying the same. he is a classic small club guy with small mentality and the signing was crazy. someone at anfield thought hey this michu guy.. must go get his partner.. looks like no actual character research was done. of course michu has proved the same.
No doubt he was sh*t but at £7m, he was low risk. He anonymous because the manager hardly played him. Can't judge a player on such limited game time. Still think we could have got more out of him.
Its impossible to say but at least we can say he will have proper qualifications. really it is urgent to get preseason going so I would have to ask where is the rest of this staff? god only knows.
eh... he played first game of season cos mr suarez bit the arm off ivanovic and he was totally anonymous. he was only half decent in slow preseason games and the moment the prem pace came he couldn't get to the pitch of it. how can you be saying on the one hand ings is muck then we could get more out of apsas how can ings be bad and apsas at 7mil sterling and a 30% loss given fee got back be low risk. had aspas been 20 it would have made sense but at his age then it was never going to make us money. I can judge a player within 30 mins same as most scouts can. he was never going to be another kuyt which at best i hoped we was going to be after a mixed preseason but within 30 mins of first game he was nowhere. Same as alberto.... once they run off and don't show fight you can forget it. like suso.. he ran off too really. you only needed 2 mins to judge lambert.. one run and you knew all you needed to... just examples.
If you asked me if I wanted Aspas before he signed, I would have said no. I'm just saying that he's a sunk cost now and I think we could have got a bit more out of him as a bit part player. That is something that Rafa was brilliant at - using his squad to his fullest. Everybody thuoght Biscan was sh*t but Rafa managed to get some good performances out of him. The underlying point I'm trying to make is that I think there is an unhealthy obsession with just transfer recruitment, and not enough on coaching and improving players, and ultimately getting the most out of our resources.
ok fair enough he's a sunk cost. but you were actively defending him. I eman lovern is a sunk cost isn't he? balotelli is a sunk cost. how come lovern is get him out and balotelli is misused. The biggest single issue if that we are grossly over paying for players that are actually not going to improve like lallana and so we don't improve... even markoivc who might imporve was so over piad for even if we could say ok we bught him and imprved him we could sell on at a profit. My view is that we don't have enough young recruitment going, we don't have the linkages to clubs to loan to set up and the model that cheslea are running is what we need. we need to buy them in, get them out there to champ clubs, some clubs in europe on a more consistent basics and increase thier value... one loan to a club to knock a guy into shape and then another to a prem club should make them good enough to play for us or be sold.
I wouldn't say very good, and clearly if they've agreed to sell him for 5m after buying him from us for 7m then couldn't be too impressed with him? he scored few goals in cup against lower league team from what I remember. When we we signed I had high hopes as he looked like he should fit with us and his movement in pre season looked good, but just don't think was quite cut out for this league.
Only idiots thought biscan was ****... We just weren't good enough to allow him to flourish to his full potential. It's like putting Messi in WEst Ham team... He'd be **** because his team mates aren't good enough.
Because Lovren has been awful for his whole career while Mario has actually been relatively decent. Looks like Coates is close to signing for Sunderland for £4m. And we're interested in youngster Joe Gomez.
Sorry, when I say very good, I was referring more to the value for money. For a cheap loan move, he did the business and was a good squad option who contributed.
£7m wasn't good value for money. We got £5m back so in that aspect can't complain too much but given the choice of Aspas or Ings for 7m as a 3rd choice striker than only one winner
I meant value for money for Sevilla. It was a good deal for them. And I agree - I rather have Ings than either Borini or Aspas.
