Yeah.................so crap that he's now only two goals from the all time England goal scoring record. He actually played well, with a fantastic ball to Sterling early on, but I agree that he should have scored those two that he missed. I actually think that England played some very good football today and could easily have won by 4 or 5.
How many goals has Rooney scored at major tournaments against decent opposition. I could score against part timers like San Marino. Rooney was useless again.
No you couldn't and he wasn't, apart from the two chances that he missed. His goal was a superb finish, made to look much easier than it was, against a top class keeper. Rooney has underperformed at major tournaments for well documented reasons. He is clearly England's best player on ability alone.
At least Charlie cannot use the excuse of leaving to wanting to play for England. He is about 10th choice and RH has proved that. Even Vardy got in before Charlie.
Yep. I do wonder that the England coaches, having watched Charlie up close, just didn't rate him. Having said that, I do think he deserved a run against the Irish. He may not get a cap now imo.
We will see how good this lot are come the euro finals! Going on past Finals ****e so don't hold your breath it will be any better.
Agree he should have played v the Irish. The sort of game to try out new talent but sadly England are going to do the usual and stick with a losing formula.
Doubt Austin would be in the squad if Kane wasn't at the U21 competition. A good start to the season and a poor one for Kane and he could easily overtake him.
I don't agree with that. England are now playing a fluid 4-3-3 and are very much a modern, counter-attacking side. They have been unbeaten all season, so are hardly sticking to a losing formula. Today, they scored one of the greatest England goals that I've ever seen and played some very good football. This isn't aimed at you Ellers, but I get the impression that some people just like to criticise England, no matter how they play. I see no point in looking back. Let's judge them on the here and now.
I wouldn't knock England unless i believed they deserved it Col. I take the point about being unbeaten however who is in the group? What i mean about a losing formula is wait until we get to the finals and you will see what i mean.
You may be right mate. I prefer to believe that we have enough good young players to maybe make a good impression in France next year. Plus, they beat the Swiss away in this group. A side who were ranked far higher than England and who were being widely tipped to give us a good hammering. We out-played them. We also out-played Italy for the entire 2nd half in that recent friendly. Slovenia have beaten Italy twice and have had some other good results too. England are now made for difficult away games to hit sides on the break imo. I just don't think that they always get the credit that they sometimes deserve.
As the saying goes, you can only beat what's put in front of you, or something like that. Six wins out of six is still a great record, whoever the opposition is.
I thought England were good today, Slovenia may not be top notch, but they are not too shabby. Good attacking intent throughout, poor finishing except for the outstanding Wilshire. The defence is still scarily shambolic though, will be tested against any team that has some talent up front. Win the next two and we have some time to really hone things before the tournament. Best not to get hopes up too much though........
Much as we may not like Terry on a personal level, the team would look a whole lot more solid with him in it.
Although that would mean we'd have to play a lot deeper than we did today which I guess isn't the plan, hence Smalling now being the first choice.
The only thing that pisses me off about England at the moment is that the granny shagging, adulterous, Shrek looky-likey, major tournament underachiever, Wayne Rooney is about to take the record for most goals in a England shirt away from the true gentleman Bobby Charlton.
At the moment cannot see past Spain or Germany for the tournament, although France will be strong especially with home advantage (if they use it). I would love to see us have a really good tournament but since Italia 90´ we have been poor. Blame it on too many overseas players, blame it on our coaching system, blame it on Sky, blame it on hoof ball, whatever. When players like Smalling, Jones, etc.. remain part of our set-up we will never move forward completely. My opinion.
Whilst agreeing in general, off the top of my head I can not really think of any other alternatives than those mentioned above, England are not really blessed at the moment with quality Premier League players playing in those positions......are there any alternatives out there?
