Just got to add to this and I apologise now, but the lads will understand as I'm getting no sympathy from the wife or mother in law for the severe aching and suffering I am now going through, despite my heroics this afternoon!

I don't remember taking one in the ribs, but I must have as they ache like hell. That or I pulled some fat attached to them. My quads are on fire and when I got up just now to come to bed, my hamstrings suddenly remembered I ran ten yards this afternoon.

Jeez I am old!!! But hey it was worth it for one thing. My wife came home and went into my son's room and asked coach (my lad was our team manager for the day)how it went. His reply? "Blimey mum, Dad is really, really good - I was surprised"

Talking to a mate this evening who said he played cricket last weekend for the first time in 25 years, and bowled a few overs.

He couldn't get his jacket on until Wednesday.

    Be warned FLT.

Yes, I heard about this story a couple of weeks ago. The woman donated it, apparently not knowing its vintage. They are looking for her because they want to give her $100,000.

In truth, this sort of thing goes on a lot more than is reported, albeit with more modest sums. Only a few weeks ago my eldest sister and her husband asked me if I wanted a painting, they had inherited from his brother, they didn't want and were going to throw out. I investigated it and it turned out to be an original by a German artist of some repute. They have yet to get it valued, but the picture is probably worth several hundred pounds, at least. They also have one or two interesting pieces of pottery, a couple of which are 19th century Chinese. They were going to give them to charity OR EVEN SKIP THEM, whichever place they passed first.

And no, I didn't take advantage of their ignorance. I'm no expert at all, but I just did an hour or so of research on the thing under my fingers right now. What could be easier.

But I have now decided the best thing is to sit on the couch, watching cricket and football, so I seize up properly :)

Sometimes you realise you just have to suffer for your art. :)

Have a little whisky later. It'll help to get you off that sofa, or keep you on it.

Er, was it too early to have a bottle of beer? <whistle>

Still on the tale end of my manflu/throat thingy (yeah, yeah, football in the rain didn't help that :) ) so I may partake in a wee dram or a brandy later this evening :)

The wife is upset though as she has no drambuie left in the cabinet and supermarket didn't have any!!

    Oops, I'm a bad Father.

My daughter just came in and asked me if I knew that Kylie had a dog. I couldnt help myself. I know it's wrong and as the wife says, Not Funny, but I had to reply by saying I was more interested in her cat!!!

A bit of an amusing coincidence, Bend it Like Beckham and She's the Man are both on at the same time on adjacent channels. Must be the influence of the Women's World Cup!

The best bit about Bend It Like Beckham is when Jess scores the winning goal towards the end, and the goalie is stood behind the wall for the free-kick, leaving half the goal open! <laugh>
