ninian, should we lose the players you mentioned we will also get sizeable transfer fees to add to our parachute payment so, whichever way you slice it, we'll have plenty of funds to buy in quality replacements that should give us a good crack of going back up.

Ideally, we will stay up and kick on from there. If we don't, the club will be in better financial shape than it's ever been. One thing is certain. We are financially solvent now (before we get a penny of Premiership money) so the future of the club is absolutely assured - there are a fair few Premiership clubs who can't say that and must be sweating cobs on the imminent new regulations. If push ever comes to shove, what a prospect we would be for serious investors - no debts to pay off and every nickel of investment could be used to improve the infrastructure of the club.

As Jamie posted, we are in a win, win, situation. I'd guess that most Swans would settle for that.

and that is why i maintain that we must do everything possible to stay up, if we go down because we wont pay the proper wages for key players then we might not get another chance for years, Brendan is not stupid he will know that and he will make sure we will get the right players......the board will have to play their part because if they dont then Brendan wont hang around and be a failure as it will not only harm us it will harm his reputation as a young manager in the premiership. the money is there use it wisely, and i dont mean wages of £50-£60k/ week either just the same as some of the other smaller clubs, wigan have proved that if you can stay in the premiership for a few years you will be able to offer higher wages like £60k/week to get the right player. it what is known as finding the right and proper balance at the beginning when you have the money.....

Oh come on you can't be serious, you would rather be in the Championship than the Prem? Give over, plus you're implying that we aren't going to compete, when we are.

we will give anyone and i mean anyone a good game with the players we already have, we may not win some but then again we might, if Brendan is allowed to do his job and bring in the players he wants then there is no reason why we cant finish around mid table this season and a bit higher next season. i just hope that Brendan is allowed to do his job and the board will not hinder his running of the club to the best of his ability. success breeds success and next season we will be able to get even higher profile players, you have got to be shrewd but not to shrewd that it stops us progressing as a football club.

Causal Fan, can't agree with that, your ignoring too many positives, and I would refer you to Ivor's post above which puts a more realistic perspective on the issues! Well said Ivor......................

Forget my opinion as a Cardiff fan for a sec, this whole artical started by saying that you were going to come back down and spend money, be one of the big clubs in the Championship, do a West brom and be a yoyo club etc. Sounds to me a good number of your fans are relaistic to know you wont compete as things stand, and if you dont compete you will go down.
Why do all the hard work of getting to the Prem, and then when you get there spend no money, sign no players and to resign yourself to relegation before a ball has been kicked. What is the point in that? Why bother even getting promoted at all?

Sorry mate read again, it did not say we were going back down - it said that it would not be so bad "IF" we did...

Being realistic, we will be better off financially than we have been the last couple of seasons and we managed it - so why not again.. ...spending does not = promotion does it.... And it seems everyone else resigned us to relegation like they did last year....

We are here, we are premier league - I have faith in my club.. I am going to enjoy the ride, if we unfortunately don't survive then at least I would have seen us play against all these teams on the big stage....

Of course we must be realistic and it will not be a disaster if we do not stay up but the dust has not yet settled on the excitement of promotion to this wonderful Premier League. Lets not get ahead of ourselves and enjoy the moment.

This is just the sort of thread Cardiff fans have been waiting for in earnest...you can't blame them after the shock of us getting promoted but lets not give them ammunition just yet.
