Anybody ever been on a cruise? My Mrs wants to go on a short cruise in the Med in September when we are back in UK. Never done an organised holiday like that before and not sure what to expect.
Sounds quite relaxing but have visions of being bored stupid after a few days.
Have told her I will check it out (which means waiting until the fixture list comes out) but would appreciate any insight.

Not sure where the fixture list comes into it as I don't believe there are likely to be any away fixtures in that area, at least not for next season?

I have sea sickness mate so it's not something I've ever looked closely at though.
My dad went on his first last year and he is now hooked though.

And you wonder why I don't start threads very often.
Think the Mrs might enjoy the Australian definition of cruising:
"when young ethnic groups of males who have cars and live in Australia pick up Aussie girls who are barely of legal age, drive them around the city for a bit, take them to a park and then have sex with them, either as just a regular twosome or the the whole crew sleeping with one chick.

This girl of course who goes 'cruising' then of course, eventually gets named as a slut and will get picked up by any ethnic male with a car, no matter how ugly she is, because they know she is an easy ****.

The girl also tends to forget who previous lifestyle and ends up spending most nights of the week with various ethnics.

The girl is also a bit of an air head generally, not just because she has no self respect, but because she often pays for petrol, alcohol and all the other goods used during 'cruising'."

If you like get away from it all holidays then forget a cruise, you will be locked into sharing your holiday with a couple of hundred other people and not just on board ship, you will all arrive at your ports of call together, and there may be other cruise ships docked as well - that said it could be reminiscent of SJP on Derby Day....

We thought about one here for the missus as she's unwell and then decided against it because although bits of it would be nice we decided to spend the funds on something we could enjoy for the long term and not on something which fades in the memory after a few weeks.

Instead we've got a hot tub in the garden which is used daily and from which we can see the mountins and watch the birds whilst being in the middle of nowhere

Excuse me if this makes little sense as a bottle of gin has just vanished somewhere...

Well thanks for this everybody. Think i will stick to Trip Advisor for holiday advice next time. The only decent advice i can glean from this is:
    1) dont do it if you get seasick
    2) it will be exciting for the first 25minutes and then I will be depressed after 90
    3) why not build a very small scale model in your back garden so you can do it every day while enjoying the views in urban Manchester.

@JakartaToon the idea of a cruise is heaven to me, spent 6 years at sea in the Navy and I loved it. Only thing I didn't like was the job involved. I'd recommend it if you want to go to a few different places and do something different. Me and the missus were going to go in September but since we found out that she's pregnant we decided to just go to Morocco for a week so she can spa and I can golf!

Now that sounds far more fun. I will tell my wife we are going on a golfing holiday. She doesn't need to play - just pull the trolly.

Although we've booked it and then last week it was announced there is some Clubbing festival while we are there near Marrachek! So our hotel is going to be full of fit teenage girls with barely anything on near the pool while I have my 6 month moody pregnant missus chained to me staring a hole in my head!!

Happy to swap. You can have the cruise. My Mrs can go clubbing while I play golf. I am sure one of the girls will be up for caddying.

We've had some great cruises but usually in a group of friends. Especially the short break party cruises to Bruges / Amsterxam etc. But I'm not so sure it's the kind of thing to do just as a couple.

Happy to give you more specific info if you like but my initial suggestion would be cruising with a group of friends can be real fun but could be odd just the 2 of you - with 1000s of strangers.

    I wouldn't bother mate.

I work on them, and personally I'd rather just pick a place and actually explore and do various tours and excursions in the surrounding area.

On a cruise you're limited in your time in port and not all of them are good all though if it's the med you should be ok. Food is always amazing on board mind.

Depends what you're after, it's a bit cramped when you're at sea mind which can get on your tits if you like your space.

Which company are you looking at sailing with?

It would be either Royal Carribean or P&O on their Eastern Med 7day cruises. Which do you recommend?
