The enigmatic German left Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season after seven years with the Bundesliga club, leading them to two league titles, the German Cup and a Champions League final in his time at the helm. Klopp now plans to take a break from football to recharge his batteries but would welcome a move to England when he does make his comeback, according to his agent Marc Kosicke. Speaking to SPOX, Kosicke said: “The Premier League is very exciting, and we do not only think about the top four because there are some other great clubs below them.” One concern Kosicke has is whether English clubs have structure that Klopp prefers and allows him to concentrate solely on matters on the pitch. “I am not sure the profile of the job could work,” he said. “In Germany there is a clear separation between manager and sporting director and I think in principle this is very good. “Jurgen does not like to speak to players’ agents or to carry out a transfer. So we have to see which is the most useful arrangement.” Champions League football is often viewed as crucial to attracting managers of Klopp’s calibre but Kosicke insists other factors are more important to his client. “It is always all about the challenge,” he added. “When Jurgen signed for Dortmund there were other clubs who had better prestige and were in better financial mood at this time. Nevertheless he decided for Dortmund. “He has the great ability to develop things. If he goes into a stadium, feels the energy and thinks that he can make a difference here, this could be more attractive to him than going with the big deals and aim for the treble.” I started putting bits in bold but that entire thing reads to me and should read to Lee Congerton as a "come and get me". I'm over the moon that we've got Gus for the next year but as a long term goal this guy would be a huge coup. He's probably (almost definitely) out of our reach but we should be trying to charm him all the same. If by some miracle Congerton could impress him with his vision, ambition and the club's support/facilities I think you'd see the best of the pair of them. Lee and Jurgen. Before I read this I'd have thought it was a Monty esque claim to say we should go in for him. Thoughts? Anyone else see what I'm seeing or have I gone mental.
I quite agree mate - it does sound like a 'come and get me', especially as he's going to take a break from football which will fit in perfectly with another year of Advocaat.
Probably the only coach i would be happy to let Dick stand aside for in a years time. Klopp has what it takes, and can hopefully get some of those Dortmund players over aswell haha. Would honestly wet myself if this happens. Would be a safer and more exciting option than Cocu, who would prob be my 3rd fave.
Probably not as much as me mate, I cling to the hope though, that no manager will ever deliver them the trophy they so badly, desperately wish for. Klopp is a great manager, but he's not a miracle worker. Their one chance in 20 years passed them by, just last season, thanks to their biggest hero of all time.
Do you see what I mean mate? I'm not one to get carried away with stuff like this but he's basically the bird in a nightclub at 3-4am screaming I need a penis. If they don't even explore the opportunity they're idiots. Invite him up for a game, all expenses paid... He'd better stay in Durham though.
I think its time you came out of the closet Di5co. The phrase is something along the lines of "Hi I'm Dis5o and I still like Gus"
I do see what you mean fella. Problem is that there's other team with a DoF role in the league. So big questions is how long can Klopp resist the urge to take another job. Anything less than a year and we'll miss out.
