Just and fyi "stadium" at the end of a name perhaps should be ignored otherwise we'll be stuck with s and m each time Abbey 'stadium'
*facepalm* When I was younger I had a poster of Simon Charlton on my wall that came out of either Shoot or Match magazine. They had his name wrong though it sad Simon Chapman. I'd love to know if anyone else had the same poster.
My "era" was a bit earlier, Mick Channon was the man, although my real hero was Alan Hudson despite playing for Stoke. Simon Charlton is a strange choice considering he played in Le God's time.
Well it wasn't that much earlier considering he was one of Chelsea's finest. Can't think why he went to Stoke City, although they were a higher profile team in those days. I remember him getting into the Chelsea team as an 18 year old. Had his first game against us, if the old synapses are doing their job correctly.
If I remember rightly, Hudson and Peter Osgood fell out with the Chelsea management and both were sold off, with Ossie coming to us and Hudson to Stoke. Stoke had a very good side under Tony Waddington at the time with the likes of Jimmy Greenhoff, Terry Conroy and Peter Shilton in goal. I can remember them challenging at the top of the first division in the mid 1970s with Alan Hudson pulling the strings in midfield.
