It finished in 1982 and didn't start up again until 1990. It could have made the difference. 100s of Hull's finest laid off in the mid-80s. Condemned to the scrapheap. No ****ing cuddly toys for them. Just harsh winters, struggling to stay afloat on fortnightly Supplementary and a soul sapping lack of hope. Didn't they do well? Did they ****. Good game, my arse.
I was a trainee mechanical technician. Spent most of my first year (1982) at the Reckitts Apprentice Training workshop. They were good days. Then onto Fenamec, before redundancy when the Yanks took over in 1986. Never actually spent much time down at Marfleet.
I started my first job there too and was there when the whole Wales move started happening. Bloody 'ell, it's like a reunuion on here. Think I was there around 93-ish for a couple of years. I made tyres on the rubber side and then moved over to the conveyor belting side, probably making the very one on Generation Game. When I did 12 hour days it was ace, Thurs-Sat on, Sun off and then Mon-Weds on and then a week off. I was full time and only worked something liked 20 weeks of the year.
Reckitts eh? I was at Reckitts in 1981, with Pete Harvatt, so you will have been the year under me. I left and went to Humbrol, then onto Kimberley Clark along with a lot of other ex Reckitts bods.
Yep, good old Pete. Rugger ref. Who was the other old feller...Terry Holdsworth? Was big George Youngs in your group, then? Had some ace times in there, especially when Pete left the room - rodeo riding the shaping machine and breakdancing on the marking off table!
Big turn-over but relativly small amount of staff, they'd be about mid table but aren't in Hull so don't qualify. cheers for that olm. you have corrected me many times over the years and ive never even met you ha!! just wondering if hull city fans that don,t live in hull in fact qualify as hull city supporters.
Shall we have a meet Antler club Friday night??
I was at Fenners too. I did the Social + Sports club accounts for a couple of years. I remember being 1 number off winning the car draw. Happy days

Happy days
A couple of my uncles worked there in the 50's and my niece's hubby has survived the latest redundancies. I was offered a job there when I left uni in 1960 but took another option. The family home at Marfleet was only 5 mins. walk away. I did play Rugby league for them for about half a season before code-hopping to Union. They had marvellous sport fields opposite the factory.

Happy days
I know a lot of you know each other from this forum, but as far as I am aware I don't know anyone off here. There could be some old mates on here from Fenners that I have lost touch with. I still see loads from Fenners btw. Be interesting to see if I know any of you on here. What is the best way of doing that without giving personal details away?

I hated it and came back after....8 weeks. Most of my long standing mates are from Fenners and we still meet up to sink a few pints and chat about how things used to be. Great times
