I am saddened by this news. John Carver is a bastion of quality coaching/management and we have treated him like worthless smelly excrement. We will live to regret this day when him and Stoney become the worlds leading duo taking in jobs at Juve, Barca, Real and Munich over the next few years. The best double act since Reeves and Mortimer.

We'll have an underwhelming first game back and the board will fill up with people saying 'bet you regret hounding out Carver now'.

Where does it say "sacked"? They probably left because the next manager, whoever he may be might want his own people in.

What else would you call being relieved of your duties?
    They would never have resigned!

Apparently he and Stone had 5 years on their contract so will have had a canny touch.

I'm not going to delight in Carver losing his job like. He's not a gentleman, he;s not a saint, but he's someone who genuinely cares about and has a connection to the football club and it's always sad when someone like that leaves a club. He wasn't good enough at the head job, he doesn't seem to have the temperament or the brains, but he's made a canny go of a career in coaching and I wish him the best.

People are always saying we need to get people who care about the football club, English hard-working types, well we've just had one as our manager. What we actually need is someone who is an improvement on what we've had, whatever their nationality, same goes for the playing staff.

Good news. Let's hope this is a fresh start (of sorts!). The new boss needed to have the opportunity to bring who he wants in.

    Agree totally here.
As a bloke he is meant to be top drawer. Some say the same about his back room coaching ability too.
The fella was out of his depth in the top job but he provided some light relief at times (no JpF not that kind).
My issues with him are well documented though.
He'll walk away with a big payout (5yrs left on his deal) and we move on.
Time will likely show it is a win/win for both parties.
I think he may end up at the Heed personally.

Aye Carver loves the cub, no doubt. I do as well, but it doesn't qualify my to run the team and motivate folk. Best off without him imo. No great lover of McClaren, but players speak highly of him. Hopefully a step upwards. <ok>

jc is a cousin of one of my mates met him once or twice long brfore he got the gig as head coach,he is black and white to the core but was clearley lacking when it came down to being a manager in one of the hardest leagues in the world.
Hes had his chance so now hopefully we move on we have to give Mac a chance.

I love the optimism that this is going to lead to change for the better. He'll be replaced by Gary Megson or Alan Curbishley. Seems odd that McClaren isn't announced.

And I'm only half joking. I still fear that something weird is going to happen.

    I'll be 100% behind Mac.
It will take a minimum of a season to see real progress so I will judge year 1 after it is over and not before.
