When Owen turned up at Newcastle and said "It's my ambition to win the Premier League title", little did they know he meant 5 years down the line, after getting them relegated and joining Man United on a free.
They're everybody's 2nd team though! I quite like Newcastle, same as you lot, well supported and I think that really deserves reward, the sport is for the fans afterall, what's the point otherwise? They do provide more drama than the average club mind.
I disagree, I think they do more damage than good. They turn like rabid dogs. They deserve **** all until they learn to manage their delusional expectations. Smug has established the fans turned on Robson. Fact is anybody who doesn't deliver to their delusion then the sheets come out. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image We're not perfect, we've had a couple of idiots who did this please log in to view this image and this please log in to view this image But it doesn't equate to that lot. Not by a long shot. It's a matter of entitlement. Mags think they're owed something for some reason.
I don't think you can question their support Bri, I'm not talking about being on best behaviour I'm talking about the number who turn up to watch inevitable ****e week-in and week-out. The likes of Wigan, Blackburn and Middlesboro were at the forefront of my thinking with this, 3 teams who've achieved relative success despite being poorly supported. NUFC fans do need to manage expectation of course, but I can't blame them for kicking up a fuss with their owner. If that happened at United Old Trafford would be tipped upside down.
I never bothered with that ****e. I sympathise with them lot though, acquiring £800m of debt secured against a football club is a precarious position to be in. Little did we know that financially, we'd become the biggest powerhouse in sport, to this extent. I lost count of how many scousers told me we'd be going down the pan.
I can, I can question ours too. their behavior could be construed as detrimental to their cause. They've given themselves a really bad rep for turning on managers. A massive club with massive fan base should be able to attract a much better manager than McClaren. It should be a top job, but it's not, it's a poison chalice and for good reason. Take Sunderland, the state of our club and 11 players on the pitch who don't want the ball as a mistake is met with 43,000 moans leading to a team who's **** at home. Does that deserve reward, just because there's bum on seats? Does it ****. It's quality not quantity for me fella.
Quality of supporters? There isn't a single club in the world who could claim to have just quality fans. Celtic fans get given a tag of 'great fans' by almost every European team that play at Celtic park yet they behave like ****ing neanderthals every time their Glasgow rivals tip up for a game. They probably can attract a better manager than Steve McClaren, (who by my reckoning is one by the way) but their owner isn't prepared to fund that. It's unfounded for you to ascertain that they can't attract top managers because of their fans, when all the evidence points to their owner being a tight **** with no ambition. Newcastle have disposed of one good manager in the history of the Premier League, has a single one of them gone on to achieve anything in football outside of Newcastle? Dalglish, Gullit, Souness, Roeder, Pardew, Hughton, Keegan... they've never had a good manager to hound out aside for Bobby Robson, I don't blame them for wanting better than that shower of ****. The reward doesn't necessarily mean trophies, rewards come in all shapes and sizes. You lot turn up 40,000 every week without fail and you get 'rewarded' with some of the worst football going. I sympathise with any set of fans who continue to turn up for such crap, it's far easier for these fans to do what Blackburn fans did and just disappear.
Blinking heck . . . . that's my mate (in the last of the group of foties) with his arm outstretched at the top of that group (looking as if he'd thrown a punch, but he didn't) and I remember watching it at the time Gus has a lot to answer for
So you admit to racially abusing Sol Campbell and wanting Bruce out purely for being a Geordie? Fair enough. That makes you a total dimwit, but fair enough.
But that's not what I'm saying. Quality is quantifiable after all, it's perfection that's non quantifiable . I just want an improvement in our attitude. Mags can continue to be a laughing stock for all I care but I'd like to see a greater empathy from our fans. If we expect improvement from the team then it's only fair that the fans try to better themselves too. Player who are **** but trying their best should not be verbally abused under any circumstances. I'm brutally honest when it comes to our players but it's never prompted a personal assassination from me on the terraces. That's just damn right offensive and ignorant. A poisonous attitude which is detrimental and it happens left right and center. Suppose you need to sit in that environment to understand how bad it can be. If the fans can improve the atmos with a bit of empathy while the club improve the team then it makes the club a much more appealing all round package for future recruitment. That's the reward. A better standard of football.
"it makes the club a much more appalling all round package for future recruitment." Is that as accurate as you mean't it to be, Funky
Fair play, then you know. Has it happened to players at man u though, while they're playing? I don't like Gomez but the poor bloke has shown some character after the way he was treated. The abuse was unbelievable and bang out of order. He is what he is, he's decent in area but comes up way to short in other, but the abuse he was getting you'd think he'd been off around Sunderland raping and murdering peoples sisters! ok an exaggeration but it was pretty bad.
