Hi Nozzer I was meaning to say hard vinyl roofs.

Gerrez I was meaning hard vinyl covering on normal roofs.

    Wiki says:
Vinyl roof refers to a vinyl covering for an automobile's top.

This covering was originally designed to give the appearance of a convertible to models with a fixed roof, but eventually it evolved into a styling statement in its own right. Vinyl roofs were most popular in the American market, and they are considered one of the period hallmarks of 1970s Detroit cars. Vinyl roofs were also very popular on European- (especially UK-) and Japanese-built cars during the 1970s, and tended to be applied to sporting or luxury trim versions of standard saloon (sedan) models

Then no, I'm afraid. I can't remember what the hard-top on the Spitfire was made out of, it lived at the back of the garage (who takes the soft top off and puts a hrad top on?), but it wasn't vinyl. All my other cars have had normal roofs.

There used to be a saying about the quality of Skoda cars.

"I'd sooner be seen getting out of a sheep than a Skoda"

    Very apt at the time.

First company car was a Datsun, may have been a Nissan by then, Sunny. The company used to buy the cheapest they could which usually meant crap colours. The one I was given on my first day with the firm was an insipid metallic green which you would have to have been completely colour blind to choose as a colour for a car. My boss rather optimistically gave me the keys, pointed it out in the car park, and said "There it is the Japanese racing green coloured one", then went back into his office pissing himself laughing

The car I enjoyed most was Honda Accord 1.8, I bought it when the mileage was
under 50000 and it clocked 160000 when I sold it after five years, economical on fuels.
It was one of the first automatic models.

    In 1976 a gallon a petrol was about 84p. When I got a car in 1980,
it was about £1.30 then they started talking in litres.
The oil company keep telling us that tax is about ninety percent or over.
    Government taking the piss?.
