Pretty sure they took a hit paying his wages. Plus they payed how much for Luke Shaw? How's that working out I wonder?
I still don't understand the point you're making with reference to Cork and his suitability to a CL team. I may be just having a stupid day though!?
Oh god, do I really have to explain? FLT said, with reference to Man Utd, (and Arsenal) "what do they know?". I was making the point that perhaps they don't know all that much. Now I expect you're going to ask me what that's got to do with Jack Cork? But I decided sometime ago not to get involved in discussing his merits. For the record though, I'm a fan.
If it makes you feel any better, I realised I did understand the point you were making. As far as Corky is concerned, I was also a fan. I thought we were the best club Jack could play for. Swansea are a club Jack can play, every game in the first 11, for, and fair enough. With us he would have been a valuable member of the squad, able to add something to the team against many opponents that other players were less suited for. He could also have played a big part in our Europa journey, but he left to be a regular first 11 player and so good luck to him. I'm really sorry he left because I liked him a lot but they couldn't guarantee him week in-week out football. At the rate Saints are progressing I have my doubts they'll be able to guarantee Steve Davis a game next season, and I like him a lot too. You can see the players who are reaching their effectiveness limit and I think Corky was there or thereabouts. The nice thing is, he left and I still like him a lot. I'd rather have that emotion than the one I keep topped up for Twatbeard.
Ok, so you think Jack Cork is a sort after player by teams in top four or top 4 ambitions. That's fine. I disagree and that's thbpoint I'm making. Not sure what yours is Archers?
Get off the fence Archers, we are all Cork fans. Is he Champions League club quality? I can only make the assumption from what you've said and not said, that you think the answer to the above is yes?
I'm also a big fan of Cork's. Falcao, for various reasons, hasn't worked at United, but are you telling me you can't see why they gave it a go? Or why Chelsea want to sign him? The only part I'm confused by in the discussion is not people's acceptance that Cork is a decent player (I agree), but that somehow 99% of the footballing world (including fans) are missing something and that he's some kind of Champins League level world-beater! I really, really wish he was - because then we wouldn't have sold him.
Do I think Cork would get anywhere near arsenals midfield? Or city's? Of course not. But man utd? Don't see why not. And he'd walk into Liverpools. I've got my tongue in my cheek btw. But only just. There are very few genuinely world class players. Corks not that, but he is premier league quality, and he's consistently shown that much.
You haven't said anything there that's different to what we've all been saying You did well to not answer the one question asked
Cork is/was a good steady player for us. While I am a fan of Cork's, I do accept that he was not international standard in my view. Therefore not a top four teams preference, including United. Having said that he is a good solid premier league player, not sure he would be so good in Europe. However always willing to be proved wrong.
What question's that? Is he good enough to play in the CL? I've already said that he could have held his own in Liverpool's midfield, and they played in the CL last season. Make of that what you will. I'd rather argue about Pelle than Jack Cork though. Do I think our Brill Cream Boy could score goals in the CL? Hell, yes, as they say in Westminster (though not in Downing Street).
Well as nobody else has answered this, I will. We were pushing for CL last year and in the home stretch, we lost both Vic and Morgan at points. So our fans should have been happy to have (re)signed Jack for our CL push. Who can say what difference that would have made? For what it's worth, I'm definitely in the Lff camp in respect of my view of Jack's abilities. It was a crying shame seeing him walk away from a new deal.
I agree too Bovril, but he left because he want going to be first choice and that's the bit I agree with.
Yes I do think he can score goals in the CL. Do I think he's a top 4 standard striker? No I don't as I don't think his all round game is good enough. I love him and love having him, but if we progress, we'll need an improvement.
Fact is jack was behind vic morgan jwp and davis in Rons list. Good player but never first pick for Ron.
