So if you disagree with the PM then you will be out? That's not democratic its ****ing dictatorship! Spit on billy! Cameron showing exactly what he is... An absolute prick
Well the way I read it is Obama has said to Cameron, "you'd better get a yes vote you **** or you & me are gonna fall out big time." Or words to that effect. So now he's ****ting himself.
I don't see too much wrong with this, to be honest Billy. The Americans have always made it clear that having Anglo-Saxon cousins in the E.U. makes US-EU negotiations easier. It's a valid enough point. Cameron's policy has always been that he wants to bring back some powers to London, rather than have EU courts, etc., run our country for us. And if that fails, then he'd consider pulling us out altogether. All he's asking the Cabinet to do now is to honour their own manifesto, which is good because so many previous governments haven't! Personally, I want out altogether - no doubts about that. But I don't see much wrong with asking his Cabinet to vote in line with their manifesto. At least it's a call for honesty, which is more than could be said for Major's whips openly blackmailing MPs on the floor of the House over Maastricht. I'm not overjoyed about this, but it's straight enough.
He hasn't told them how to vote at the ballot box - that's their democratic choice - just not campaign to pull out before he's had the chance to re-negotiate our position in the EU. It's a two-stage policy, and he's just asking them to vote in support of their own manifesto and take step one before step two. We can talk about step two later - though frankly, I'd skip step one and get to hell out now.
Isn't he just asking them to tow the party-line during negotiations? Seems reasonable enough to me. You can't negotiate with the other side while those sitting alongside you are saying something different. No. 10 now denying they've said this now though.
Called "collective responsibility" and means the Cabinet support policies they decide to implement, whether a few of them disagree or not. If you are opposed to a policy you are still supposed to support it publicly or resign if it's a point of principle, e.g. Hesletine over Westland...
But isn't this just a case of tweaking up the Euro Agreements that were drafted and set about 25-30 years ago. So many contries with differing internal laws are just not working under blanket Euro agreements. A bit like USA's federal and state laws, they all need looking at now and again without scrapping them all together.
You're right in essence, Nostalgic. But the political atmosphere throughout Europe has changed radically this last few years. UKIP actually got more votes this year than the ScotsNats! They just didn't have a regional identity to get the seats. Farage did well. But without doubt the biggie in Euro-elections was Marine le Pen. Suddenly, one of the two biggest Euro drivers since the EU began had turned skeptic. Even Angela Merkel has said that they might have to give Cameron what he wants to avoid Britain walking out. She knows fine well that if Britain did that, le Pen might not be far behind. So I'm not so sure it's "tweaking" any more. The E.U. is facing a full-scale re-think - or a full-scale melt-down. Much as I'd like to pull out altogether, I think Cameron will get what he wants and we'll stay in. But it'll be a different place when Cameron and le Pen are finished with it for sure - and we might just get to run our own country again. This lad's got balls - I'll say that much.
The question is who is the "we?" Not you and I for sure!!! You and I have will have no more say in running the UK whether we stay in or pull out of the EU.
I can't imagine a House of Commons big enough to accommodate all 60-odd million of us, and even if I could we wouldn't all get a word in edgeways. That's why we have elections and vote for 650 to represent us. Our say is our ballot paper. If you want more say, stand for election yourself - nobody's barred.
