The problem is - at the moment - we are not a big enough club and we need to be canny in our signings. We are offering a history not a future. Personally I would have gone for Austin over Ings. Ings requires a lot of chances, however to me he is very reminiscent of Kuyt, and if he turns out like that I will be more than happy.
Age and value, ings is cheaper with bigger potential. I like Austin, think he's a good striker but not sure he fits us either, not the best movement off the ball, tends to be a more central striker not willing to run the channels or in behind.
I got a chance to see quite a lot of Austin, and he is a natural finisher, which is something we don't have, obviously that means jaffa all if we don't get the ball into the box for him. I am starting to wonder if Rodgers is going to go for a different style, possibly more direct next season.

I wouldn't be going for either Austin or Ings. Both are low level strikers, and neither will take us to where we need to be.

Unfortunately without shedding lots (and i mean **** loads) we really are not in a position to command the types of players we would like to get. This season was a bad one, we needed to cement place in top four. We did not for reasons best not to go into. Result, we are back to square one. I am still undecided on Brendan, but I do think Lovren will improve out of last years follies. Showed some great isolated moments towards end of season. Difficult to judge team after utd and arsenal results as to me it looked like we just gave up (perhaps the most worrying part to me).
I buy into all the hype surrounding any new player we bring in. Every new player we got I thought would do the business. So most disappointed me, bar the likes of Torres, Alonso and Mascherano.
