So, a veritable PR blitz from Baz last week and all sounding positive....but like some on here I have to admit to remaining sceptical. I do so hope I'm wrong but I've been a Watford fan long enough to know that it's not worth getting my hopes up too much. We had a lot of positive pronouncements last week but playing devil's advocate you could distil them down as follows: 1. Selling Buckley was Malky's fault. 2. Selling DG was unavoidable given the contract which the previous administration cocked up on. 3. Losing Cowie was unavoidable given the contract which the previous administration cocked up on. 4. We want to get seven new players in (but we may not be able to) 5. We don't want to sell any more players (but we might). 6. We hope to develop the south west corner around October. 7. We hope to build a new east stand next year if the south west corner is finished. 8. We want to do something with the Red Lion (but we don't know what). It all sounds good but there are a lot of ifs, but and excuses in there. Bas claims to have put money into the club for various purposes which is great but to me counts for nothing if we don't know where that money has come from. This guy was bankrupt a year or two back and is now in a position to buy a football club and inject £10m into it and pass up some (frankly unbelievable) offers to make a quick £10-15m profit. For me the best thing Baz could do at the moment to reassure me about the clubs future would be to explain where he has got the money from. He clearly can't or won't and until that is rectified I remain a little worried. We'll really start to see how his promises stack up in the coming weeks as we see how the club manage in getting players in and capitalising on the advantage of selling Graham early on so we have time to look at replacements (which was the spin originally put on his sale).
Hello berks and all good points , that have been discussed before and will be discussed again at the moment we are in limbo as the guys are in france, although we are hoping for more ins!!! as you state that is the comment That Baz wil be judged on , although to qualify that we dont want to bring 5 anybodies in , they have to fit the business model of having potential that we can sell later for a profit!
Why on earth should he? I have to say I find it a little odd that people think they have the right to know everything about someone else's finances.
i have to agree with you BB. I think we just have to accept what he says, think about it positively, and only start doubting when he doesn't deliver. Innocent until proven guilty covers this for me too...
I'm not saying i necessarily have a right to know just that if he were to make it clear where the money had come from it would be the best way of putting my mind at rest. Maybe im just a bit of an old cynic but i think we can all acknowledge his provenance isnt that good.....makes me nervous anyway.
i can understand that Berks, and i have felt the same since we found out about him, but i have to admit, he hasn't seemed to have done much wrong, except that he was so quiet at the beginning, and that made us all nervous. Saying that, i've spoken to people who know him, and they warn us to be wary...but until he proves he's full of balarny, i'm willing to believe him...
Watford.....with money??.......what a preposterous claim. Reading Baz's comments is like living in dream world.....the key point being dream as there's no way to know whether it's all bollocks or the real deal.
As ever guys time will tell , give him the benefit of the doubt ,although I am also one on those with a bad feeling about all this!
For now we must back him (Mr Bassini) to the hilt. It all looks pretty unconvincing thus far but football is a results business and if we end up with a couple of decent signings, not lose any more players, and string a few wins together at the start of the season and SD shows himself worthy of the faith the board have put in him then maybe, just maybe, we can cast our doubts to the rubbish dump that is false conjecture. I agree with BB - I don't give two hoots about where the money is coming from (thankfully not Mr G's dildo's or worse Uncle Bob's fiscal shennanigans or the somewhat murky enigma of our previous benefactor) and he is not the first or last businessman to be bankrupt either - it's not really our business. What is though is that he proves to be a trustworthy and beneficial custodian of the club during his time here. I think he understands what is required, whether he has the wit, wisdom, money and luck to pull it off remains to be seen. Let's all hope so, eh? Failing that I'm sure there are plenty out ther who'll be willing to put the hilt right into the back!
Some good points in there BH, but you can understand him trying to defend his position that a lot of the negatives that have happened recently have come from the previous regime but under his watch! He is also teling us there are a number of positives happening or will happen in the future. While a lot of us are sceptical about what he has said, he will soon be found out if he doesn't deliver, so has nothing long-term to gain by telling lies. My Dad visited me this weekend and knows a friend of Bas's, and he told me to just wait and see.... I asked if he meant in a positive way, and he said yes! I am feeling a lot better about it all now, and far more positive than I was a month or so ago!
Credibility is a big thing for me. We all know his business background is rubbish and then he says he has spent £10m on the club. Err right yeah. But why would he buy Watford FC? Its not as if he has had any previous connection to any form of football. But I'm told he now travels 1st class to games. I'd love to meet him and ask him his history of supporting Watford ........favourite player, best game - does he remember Lofty from the 50's etc.
"But why would he buy Watford FC? Its not as if he has had any previous connection to any form of football. But I'm told he now travels 1st class to games." Does he actually have a car or a driving licence? If he needs driving lessons I know just the person.
Funny you should say that, I tripped over the other Mr B's car badly parked in the Borehamwood FC car park. Maybe Mr Barrea wanted it to be noticed???? But no sign of a flash car in the name of Baz!!! LOL
First - he never will tell us Second - the reason it is right to ask is because he has not just bought himself a house or a car or something private - he has bought a "public" club - which the local community has a non legal ownership in. As such it's future is important to that community and so knowledge about its security should be public
It was your comment about the other Mr B and his car that made me think Elixir. Several months back he was travelling to away games on the train with Julian Winter. So far I don't think I have seen anywhere that he has a car.
