Every one has an initial gut feeling on a new signing when they arrive. Every one thinks they know whether they will be a good signing or not. So I am going to pose a simple question. During your time as an LFC fan which signing did you have the best feeling about and which signing did you have the worst feeling about? And secondly, did our gut feeling turn out to be right or wrong? I will start. Worst feeling: The moment it was announced that we had signed Joe Cole I had a terrible feeling. I felt certain that we had made a mistake and signed the wrong player. I remember a lot of fans getting excited about Cole on old 606 but I could not understand the optimism. Now that Cole is long gone I can easily say my gut feeling was very much correct. Other mention: Mascherano - Boy was my gut feeling wrong Suarez - I thought he would bring to much controversy. I was right, but he was incredible and the controversy was worth it. So my gut feeling was wrong. Best feeling: I almost feel like I'm cheating by saying Torres because he was world class from the start for us. But it is a fact that he was not quite as good at Athletico as he was for us. But I was right to feel he would be great for us.
I was vocal from the start about Balotelli and I certainly got that right. I was the same with El Hadj Diouf. Torres and Alonso were 2 that I was excited about. Danny Ings my gut feeling is that he'll do well for us but nothing spectacular.
I'm sure there will be a few others on here but I was very happy when we signed Harry Kewell. That one didn't really work out though
Its because he is a lazy bellend that also happens to be a **** (or should I say, less than #average) footballer
Konchesky - expected nothing, got nothing But a thousand typing monkeys would all be in agreement on that one Aquilani - had high hopes, no need to say anymore there Morientes (although this was a little bit before my proper time) - High hopes, didn't really do anything, certainly nothing to live up to his name
Oh Morientes! What a let down. I think Aquilani could have been a star if it wasnt for injuries. I remember the EL semi v Athletico. Rodgers should have tried Aquilani instead of loaning Sahin. Kewell- Another player ruined by injuries.
Same, he was probably most excited I'd been about a new signing even including Torres and Suarez who was excited about but not to the same levels.
Lallana - overhyped because he was an Englishmen who looked half decent on the ball. Lovren - been awful throughout his miserable career bar 6 months at Soton. Lambert - £4m too much for a lampost. Markovic - expensive and I expected him to have been better. Having said, still very young and raw. Ings - nothing signing. Good financial benefit. Milner - I expect fans to be disappointed with this signing within 6 months, and then start comparing this deal to Joe Cole's.
No one expected him to be as bad as he turned out though I wasn't that positive about him, I thought Studge would be the man and Balo would chip in. We know how that turned out I just don't get excited over signings, the last I was really looking forward to seeing play was Torres
When your manager doesn't play to your strengths, and continuously throws you under the bus and blames you for defeats/draws when you're not even playing, then it's no surprise Mario has been poor.
Worst Gut feeling was either Carroll or downing. Both of them felt really bad. Best gut feeling wasnt strictly a signing, but was the first time I ever saw Gerrard play in the red shirt. he just had something about him and it was clear he was going to be a legend. In terms of actual signings, was probably Torres
I was chuffed when we signed Kewell and Litmanen too bad they didn't turn out as exceptional as in their previous clubs. Lucas was a bit of a let down in that he was known more for being an attacking midfielder and then Rafa converted him to a DM. Shame the same stuff happened to Mikel. He was bloody talented and finished second to Messi in the under 20s as player of the tournament. Signed for United and Chelsea and ended up having his attacking talent drained off him.
Best gut feeling was Torres and Mascherano. Both were young, hungry and had a good rep around Europe/South America. Then they joined and they instantly took off.
You bash both of the free signings before they've even kicked a ball for us, yet you don't even include Moreno in the list above, a LB that isn't that great going forward and can't defend for ****. #pickandchoosetosuityourargument
I could forgive Balo for such a low goal tally, it can happen, but the manner of it is what annoys me. He's looked like he's league one quality or worse, poor touch passing and every other thing he tries to do. Just rare flashes of something now and then. Rodgers is Rodgers, balo had it in his own hands and he's come up epically short.
So you expected those 4 from last season to be stars? Far to early to judge Markovic. He has a very big season ahead of him if Sterling goes.
